Digitally re-mastered reissue of this 1980 debut album from the Post-Punk outfit led by Adrian Borland. Formed in 1979, The Sound are one of the most unjustly neglected band of the '80 's. They may not be as well-known as their contemporaries Echo & the Bunnymen or Joy Division, but their contributions to the first wave of English Post-Punk are equally unique and influential. Fed up with it's simplistic structure and rote posturing, Borland cut ties to the Punk movement after fronting '77-era group the Outsiders. Not unlike Magazine's Howard Devoto, whose similar inclinations led to his leaving the Buzzcocks, Borland wanted to create a sound that relied more on atmospheres, tensions and instrumental interplay while harnessing the urgency of Punk's spirit. With the release of Jeopardy, The Sound turns this inspiration into a nearly perfect debut.

The 1972 label? A Warner and Rhino company....
Please inform us all of what possible reason you could have to reissue, in this day and age of complete discographical CD releases, any CD WITHOUT every pertinent single, B-side, and rarity? All I can say is YOU BETTER BE PLANNING TO RELEASE the complete singles,b-sides, EPs and rarities, and we know there are PLENTY to make a great CD from! How could you be so careless? Yes we all know the old ploy of releasing, waiting 30 years, reissuing with rarities, so everyone will buy again; but don`t you think a label with your experience, and a populace that`s fed-up, and great music you`ve ignored for SO LONG, is a good enough reason for deserving some respect?

A Forgotten Gem
Bad Ass post punk from 1980, for fans of Franz Ferdinand, Ian Astbury, 17 Seconds and Joy Division.

Should have been a half of an album....
Born from the dark electro duo known as Second Layer, this is a total about-face. Since buying it in 1982, I always thought this was really half an album. Frankly, side one stinks (tracks 1-5)--production is inconsistent and the songwriting is weak. The remaining tracks are fantastic and worth the price of admission however. Fans of the Lines, early Comsat Angels should check this out. A bit poppy but with lots of energy, it kinda works.

Perfection
This is the perfect 80's/post punk album. I am rarely moved to bother leaving reviews, but this album is exceptional. Shame on us all for not giving this the attention and credit it deserved while Adrian was alive. Give it a listen, and you'll see what I mean.

As good a band as Joy Division
As good a band as Joy Division. At times, better. Lots of soul in this music, but it's also very dark and depressing.

Timeless
This album has stood the test of time....Adrian Borland was so underrated for his talent. Some of my The Sound LP's I see going for hundreds of dollars.

A gem of a post-punk album
A 1980 album, fresh, pleasingly rough, interesting even now, and that's more than I can say for many of its peers. This one goes on the 'desert island' list.

A pretty good warm up for their classic second album...
Well, the second album by the Sound (From the Lion's Mouth) is a classic... One of my all time favourites. I bought it the last time they were reissued back in 2003, but by the time I got round to buying more by them they'd fallen out of print. Until now...So, Jeopardy isn't as good as From the Lion's Mouth but it's not bad. Like a lot of first albums you can hear the influences, and the songs and the overall sound haven't quite gelled in the way they did on the follow up album. The playing is really good, showing the intensity they'd display even more on the second album, even if some of the lyrics aren't as mature as later songs.Nonetheless, a lost post-punk classic...
