An excellent 'mechanical' keyboard with optical switches that is around $60.00 dollars. That sentence feels crazy to say, but it's the gosh darn truth. This review is mainly for the Gateron Red Optical switch version of this keyboard.Pros1. Hot-swappable. If a switch dies just pull it out and replace it (not likely to happen considering no metal leaf), or get some different Gateron Optical switches like blacks or yellows to change the entire feel of the keyboard. Example, these red switches are incredibly easy to press. I really like how smooth the linear switch is, so I'd probably want to get some Gateron Optical Black switches.2. Programmable. A really underappreciated plus is definitely going to be the software of this keyboard. It's not in English, but it definitely still gets the job done. There are also Macro's which I have started to use more often. Example, I was able to change around my Home and End keys so that they are more comfortably near the Function key.3. That FAST response time. There is a noticeable difference between pressing a Cherry MX Blue switch down and having the character move and pressing this linear optical switch down and having the character move. I think there are two reasons for this.a. The reason that actually matters, the switch actuation point is higher at 1.5 mm versus a Cherry MX Blue being at 2.00 mm.b. The optical nature of the switch is said to have a response time of 0.2 mm. I don't know if this actually matters in the long run, but it's good to know that it may be faster.Cons1. The key caps are okay, but I do think these switches need O-rings to be perfect. I think the sound of the key caps is my biggest issue with them; they just sound cheap and the O-rings keep them from hitting the bottom plate. My second issue is that they don't have a lot of texture to them so they're kind of like in-between being smooth and textured which is just not a good feeling at all.2. Certain keys are not programmable. For some reason all of the keys that change lighting effects and swab profiles can't be disabled. I think this would be my only real problem with the keyboard on the software level.3. THIS IS A PET PEEVE. I like the RGB, the screws guys, but come on. They're not black nor are they white, just plain silver. I can't not see them. They stare at me between the key caps.Neutral1. There's a microphone in the keyboard for the Music back-lighting mode. I plan to mod this keyboard more, so I'll probably end up desoldering the microphone anyways. I wish it was more software and went by the audio playing on the computer since that would be sick.Current modifications: PBT key caps and O-rings.Queued modifications: Better stabilizers, desolder microphone, I plan to replace the O-rings with some type of foam insert that will dampen noise more and result in less fatigue, and I want to refine my function key layout and figure out some macros.

I usually don’t leave reviews but HOLY this keyboard is soooo good I mean seriously it’s super responsive I have bought yellow and red optical switches and the yellow ones are super fast it’s the fastest keyboard I have tried and I’ve had a razer huntsman mini and an apex pro TKL but a warning the keys press on accident sometimes it’s like playing on a touchscreen so it’s super responsive but also super easy to press weather that’s good or bad idk depends from person to person but the red switches are absolutely perfect I mean seriously they are super responsive they don’t press on accident they sound so good and they are built to last. So in summary idk personally don’t know about black or blue switches but red and yellow switches are really good I’d give yellow switches 9.5/10 and the red ones 10/10

I got the optical red switches because I would mainly be using this keyboard for gaming. In that regard, it works flawlessly. People say the software is bad but it’s not that difficult to use, at least for me. Though, I have a couple issues that might be deal-breakers to other people.First, right out of the box, my X key came in with a slight but very noticeable dent (see the picture). This does not impact how I press that particular key, it just adds a bit of texture, but I ordered this new. I will not be returning it because I couldn’t care less about such a minor deformity. I’m just throwing this out there to let people know.Second, these switches are really loud. I had to buy some 80A o-rings and stack them to muffle the sound so they wouldn’t pick up on my microphone. It doesn’t impact the feel at all since these are one of the firmest o-rings you can get, but they do decrease the total travel, which I was fine with. I wouldn’t recommend this for use out in public or in a setting with several people unless you swap in silent switches. If you don’t want to spend an extra $30 getting those switches, I suggest that you look for a different keyboard.Overall, I recommend this just based on the fact this is $35, or a bit more depending on what you pick, despite having a wide array of Gateron switches right out of the box and its own software.

When this keyboard, the white GK61 with Gateron Reds, came in the mail I was beyond excited to open it after seeing multiple reviews on YouTube and Reddit giving the product positive feedback. I am not new to the world of mechanical keyboards so I was more than aware of what to expect. After opening the box I was happy to find that UPS had not failed me and my keyboard was intact, but I quickly noticed the windows key was no where to be found. After ignoring the missing cap, assuming I would find it loose under the interior cardboard piece along with the USB-Type C connector, I was very sad to see that the key was not present. As I am typing this review on the keyboard I have nothing but positive thoughts, it is aesthetically pleasing, while not PBT the key caps are high quality, and due to the heft the board it feels like it has great build quality. While the pros should outweigh the cons of this board in particular, for me they do not. I know as soon as I lift my left hand away from the board, I will see a helpless little shiny black windows key, out of place, and out-numbered, by a sea of white key caps with a clearly dominant aesthetic. After I purchase a new set of PBT key caps this board will become a source of pride for my current set up. For now though, this small problem is corrupting my already OCD mindset. Every time I look down I want to slam the keyboard into the ground and throw scalding hot water on it, taking a professional grade torch and burning the single recycled black windows key cap until it is a small piece of identifiable plastic autism contrasting my bright hardwood floors.

I think for a $50 dollar keyboard it is amazing. I'm on a heavy budget but I also love to game and this keyboard has done everything I want it to do. I would recommend for someone on a budget or on a unlimited budget to get this keyboard. I will say it's a small keyboard so don't expect it to be even average size at all. The best thing about it is the weight and the build quality of this keyboard. Also the response time is very impressive and I have no faulty issues when gaming. It picks up every key I push and I was surprised because I find myself accidently bumping keys (I have fat finger). 10/10 for the first keyboard I own.

its honestly a really good BUDGET keyboard for anyone who is looking for a 60% keyboard for gaming or office work. everything about this keyboard met or exceeded my expectations for it. Ive been using this keyboard for about a year and a half and its actually pretty good. i got the red switches but i recommend brown for gaming and frequent typing. sadly there is no customization option for this keyboard and you limited to the presets on the keyboard itself. typing feels responsive and fast. great keyboard for the money, would buy again

Honestly great for gaming- but do take note that the switches do note come pre-lubed and the stabilizers on the spacebar feel a little sketchy. As for the material itself, it has a pretty high quality plastic casing, but the keycaps are ABS- although they are easily replaceable as this keyboard is great for modding and customization. As far as value for money goes- it is honestly a great beginner mechanic keyboard and I don't see myself buying any other keyboards any time soon.

I have been through many keyboards, mostly budget, Asceny, Reddragon as well as HCMAN. But I can tell you that this is by far the best for the price. Though unlike Asceny it does not come with extra keycaps for the bottom row keys and escape. My preferred switch would definitely be the reds though because blues are just to clicky, browns are just preference, black switches, are too hard to press for gaming. And then yellow and silver switches are too fast. And reds are perfect, also this keyboard is hot-swappable, so if a key breaks or if you do not like a key, then you can switch it with only a gateron switch. Overall great for the price. THOUGH KEEP IN MIND, SOFTWARE IS NOT TOO GOOD and THERE IS A MICROPHONE UNDER THE SPACEBAR FOR RGB EFFECTS (A LITTLE SUSPICIOUS FOR SPYING USE).

GEDDIT IF YOU NEED A BUDGET KEYBOARD

Price is very low due to using an optical board, meaning the board is only hotswappable with other optical switches, you can't use 99% of mechanical switches you would normally like to use. Not a big difference in speed of optical switches compared to mech switches, it's mostly just marketing BS. Mine came with gateron optical reds and are very smooth and feels great. Stabalisers are incredibly rattly, with the keyboard sounding especially loud and terrible. Great for a new keyboard enthusiast as there can be a lot of modding to be done. Switch out the stabalisers for plate mount stabs, either cherry or durock, add foam to the case, holee (bandaid) mod your stabalisers, lube your switches and stabs and customise your keyboard layout functionality with hk gaming's much more intuitive software compared to other GK61 sellers.I'd recommend going for a mechanical GK61 rather than an optical GK61, spend a few more bucks for more switch options later down the road.

Used for years now, all good still. Great buy.
