You mention that your sand is special, what makes the sand you use different?  Isn't all sand the same?  Thanks so much

Hello there. Thanks for your question. I'd love to explain because our sand is something we're very proud of.

Interestingly, not all sand is the same. Whilst it may look similar, our sand is crushed from a specifically chosen rock (in North America) to avoid contaminants, free quarts or free silica. Plus, it goes through strict annual safety checks, ensuring it is CPSIA & Prop 65 compliant. (We want to avoid any nasties from our sand). We spent a lot of time finding the perfect sand supplier, to be sure we were offering sand that was both safe, and perfect for Zen Gardens. So whilst our sand isn't the cheapest, we can be confident of its quality...and that's important to us here at Island Falls Home.

Finally, after choosing our supplier, we tested out various sand grain sizes. Again, not all sand is the same. (Some is fine & some coarse). We've a great relationship with our supplier and have chosen what we believe to be the optimal sand grain size for use in Zen Gardens. The patterns show up clearly, which makes a real difference. You will even see a very slight sparkle!

Is is supposed to come with sand? I thought it did. I bought two for Christmas and none of them came with sand%

Hello and thank you for your purchase. Yes, our Zen Gardens absolutely come with sand, along with all the other features you see in the photos & description. Regrettably, it sounds like you received two from a very small batch that we identified as having an issue. I'm sorry for this. I'm pleased to say that this issue has now been rectified, but we would really like to send you replacement bags of sand. What is the yellow stickey thing for?

Hello. Thank you for your question. I'm not certain which piece you are referring to, but believe you are asking about the enclosed bamboo wooden tools. You will find 6 tools in your Zen Garden kit. They're handcrafted so look and feel great to use. If you scroll down on our listing, you will find full details about each of the tools, as well as images of how they can be used to create patterns in the sand. One of the tools (namely, the 'Smoother tool') is packed as 2 wooden sticks, which simply slot together to create the tool. There is also the 'Detailer stylus' which is a slightly curved stick, which is used to draw free-form patterns in the sand. What is the Height of the tray?

Hi there. Thanks for your question. The Zen Garden sand tray is exactly 2.0cm in height. The usable (internal) height of the tray is exactly 1.6cm. With the 454g (1lb) of sand that we provide, you will find that this fills the tray to around halfway, which you should find to be the perfect level to allow you to rake without scratching the base, but also it not being too full that it spills.
