i bought 2 of these rods in the last year because i love the portability of telescopic rods and this one in very light and portable with good action but both have broken extremely easily. these are very fragile and fragile isn't what anyone wants in a telescopic travel rod. wanted to like this rod but I'm very disappointed with the quality and lack of customer care from kastking. I've tried reaching out to them with no response.

I'd bought one of the cheaper off-brand collapsable spinning rods, and returned it almost immediately. Terrible workmanship and loose fittings. This rod is much nicer, and while neither extremely robust nor the quickest to use, I do recommend it because it's stout enough for most people's needs. I bought two of these, the first one broke due to my own negligence (bent the tip putting it in the car and it snapped). I was happy to see with the replacement there's a new tip cover design, which is bigger and looks like it might prevent that kind of thing happening again. The cover also has a plastic wire in it now that keeps the eyes aligned when it's collapsed which is nice. *edit 10/7/20: Second tip snapped on me, after only a couple of uses. Just from falling over leaning against the wall, no more than the weight than the rod and reel. This rod feels really good in the hand, but collapsible rods are just too fragile to recommend. I'm not that hard on my stuff and I've bricked two of these after only two outings each.

Update: Performed great, until it broke at the tip on the first trip. Had a blast casting with this from shore as the extra foot made a nice difference vs my other travel rods, however the fiberglass tip near end splintered at some point (didn't actually catch anything so not sure how this happened--reading the other reviews it seems like maybe this is just a flaw in the manufacturing or design). Hoping KastKing can improve on this as all of their other products have really been stellar in my experience. Note: Haven't had the chance to try it out on the water yet, but will add to this review when I do. Much nicer quality than the other travel rods you typically see here on Amazon from the likes of Plusinno or other manufacturers like that. I would expect as much, as KastKing has delivered a ton of value to my fishing and my son's. We're big fans of their reels and fishing accessories as they're always a good price and perform well--we'll try anything they make. This is out first rod from them. Nice lightweight graphite feel and EVA handle pieces are well positioned and sized. Reel seat can get nice and tight and doesn't slip. The eyelets are bigger and look more high quality (stainless?) than my other travel rods and the guard they provide to protect them during travel feels robust. Only concern, that I have yet to vet, is that because this is longer than your typical 6'6" rod (I got the 7'0"), it may not fit as well in a suitcase or in a rod holder on a backpack. You can see in my photo that when setup, the real will set above the buckle on my KastKing sling back, wheres with a more compact travel rod the reel would sit secured between the buckle and the rod pocket. Not a deal breaker, but need to make sure it stays put if carried at an angle or take the reel off for longer hikes to the water. All that said, the longer length does means longer casting so the travel issues might be well worth it. Will be beach fishing with this in May and can't wait to try it out!
