Four Square Writing Method Grades 7-9 w/ Enhanced CD Perfect Paperback – July 1, 2010

I'm a new homeschooling mom. I bought Lucy Calkins book, "Writing Pathways" because I wanted to give my kids a writing checklist for the days when we revise our first drafts. She breaks the checklist down into three parts: Structure, Development, and Conventions. I felt I had the Development and Conventions lessons covered with Evan Moor's "Six Trait Writing." "Four Square Writing" has been a great find to help us cover the structure portion of the checklist. Both "Six Trait Writing" and "Four Square Writing" are very gentle on the child, yet thorough at teaching! Kids love it!

I have used this wring strategy go 15 years of teaching. All I can say is my students always passed their writing standard of learning (SOL's). I highly recommend this book for any teacher who teaches writing! My principal was so impressed with my writing scores that she asked me to do a staff development on The Four Square for teachers k through 5!

I used this in my classroom, very helpful in getting children to organize and elaborate their writing.

My daughter was lucky enough to have a teacher that took it upon herself to teach her students the Four Square Method. It is a great way to teach kids to write. I used this workbook to teach this method to my son over the summer since he didn't have the same teacher. The workbook is easy to understand and follow.

This has made writing easier for my son. It gave him a framework to build on and has helped ease some of his anxiety with writing.
