As far as I can tell you could mount these just about however you like, including directly to your bed. I didn't want to do that, so I looked around on Google and saw what some other folks did for a removable solution. I blended a few ideas together and used some 2x6's to create a simple, cheap, and removable option. I was very surprised and pleased to see how solid the bikes rode when clamped in. They didn't seem to move an inch. I have no negatives to list for this product. I haven't had them long, so they only thing I can't attest to is durability in weather. I do not plan to leave mine out when not in use, so that shouldn't be a factor for me.
