Solid construction- easy to use - my roses love me now!
Having moved into a new home, I found myself with three beautiful rose bushes in my backyard just begging for regular trimmings. My old pair of pruning shears had seen its last legs, so it was time to treat my rose bushes to some new shears.The first thing I noticed when I took these pruning shears out of the package was that they were very sturdy, yet easy to hold with my small hand. I immediately went to my backyard and started trimming my rose bushes. Granted, my rose stems are not very thick (maximum 3/8” diameter), and I really just need to just shape and to deadhead (lop off the old flowers) my bushes. These shears made it SO EASY for me, slicing smoothly through the stems. Wow, I was impressed!In my opinion, hand-held bypass pruners like this are for light-duty garden work, so I don't expect them to work for thicker stems/vines. But, for the sake of trying, I attempted to cut some dead vines from my lilac tree, about ½” inch diameter. And yes, sure enough these shears were definitely not going to cut the vines comfortably with my small hands. But, so what? I don't use them for this purpose.Pros- Comfortable and easy to hold- Sharp and perfect for light-duty trimming- Solid construction- Has safety locking mechanism- Reasonably pricedCons- If you want to find a garden tool to cut thick, hard stems/vines (½” diameter or larger) and you have small hands like me, this is not your tool of choice.All, in all, these shears are absolutely PERFECT for my gardening needs, are well priced, and I would recommend them for light-duty garden trimming. I’ve had them for only a short while, so time will tell if the shears hold up, but they appear to be well constructed, and if I clean and maintain them regularly, I believe they will stand the test of time.I purchased this product at a discount in exchange for my honest review.
