TP-Link TL-WR810N V2 Wireless Wi-Fi Travel Router w/Access Point/TV Adapter/Repeater/Hotspot (WISP) Modes, Up to 300Mbps

This is a great little device. I bought it specifically for its ability to create a secured wireless network from an open "captive network" - one that you have to login to a web page before you can access the Internet. For devices like my wireless printer and my AppleTV that don't have a browser, you usually can't connect to a captive network and even with devices where you can like the PS4 and our laptops, we don't want to. Also some places limit the number of devices that can be signed in with one account. This device comes to the rescue on both accounts. It's easy to setup using the included instructions and the wizard for its different modes. It can connect to a wireless network and then you connect your phone or other device with a browser to it. Once you authenticate with one device, all of your other devices are automatically authenticated since the external network sees all of the devices as one device. It worked great for my AppleTV and my wireless printer. Signal strength is pretty good. I could get a weak signal from my car in the parking lot to the 4th floor where my router was located. It can also serve as a regular wireless router, a wifi extender, and a wireless adapter for devices that only have Ethernet. You can plug it directly into wall or it can get power from the USB port. If you plug it into the wall, you can plug in a USB hard drive and share files. One note, if you are using an iOS device and trying to use it to connect to a captive network and it stops working and your iOS device won't redirect you to log on, just "forget" your internal network from settings and reconnect.

This little guy is pretty awesome for $30. My main use for it is in my RV, but I also take it traveling to hotels and the rest of the time I use it as a repeater for my main router at home. In the RV or while at a hotel, I use it for two things. I use it as a hotspot to connect other devices to the hotel / RV park WIFI. This is great because it allows devices that can't access the hotel / RV park login page to still get internet access (Xbox, Chromecast, etc). Plus all my devices are already connected to this router, so once I connect it to the hotel / RV park internet, all my devices are connected too, no connecting them individually is required. I also have a portable version of my Plex server on a laptop and external hard drive, so setting up the router also allows me to stream my local content to other devices locally, even without an internet connection. We took a trip to a cabin this summer, where there is no internet connection at all. I set up the router along with the laptop Plex server and was able to stream all my movies and kids shows to tablets, phones, and a Fire TV stick on the main TV, all with no internet connection. I did have some problems with some random movies not playing without internet, but playing fine later WITH internet, but that is a Plex issue, not a problem with the router. It is nice when my RV has its own wireless network, complete with a full library of movies / shows that can be streamed locally. The rest of the time, I leave it on repeater mode and expand my home WIFI network. My home is single level, so getting WIFI from one end to the other is challenging. With this router as a repeater I now get much better signal in the other half of the home where it was weaker before. As other reviewers mentioned, it is kind of a hassle to get it back out of repeater mode, since you can no longer access the router setup via WIFI once it is in repeater mode (because there is no longer a WIFI network for the router, it is just repeating the other main router). The only way to change modes at that point is to connect to it via ethernet, which could be a problem if you didn't bring a device with ethernet on your travels. I have been very pleased with it so far.

Saw some so-so reviews wondered if I'd be amazed or disappointed. Glad to report that the set-up, although a bit confusing was as promised. I have a hybrid system at my place. Wired for internet (rock solid connection) TP-Link R860 to my DSL modem and wireless TP-Link N300 for work at home GF who uses wi-fi laptop (Windows) and devices (Iphone and Ipad). My stuff works (old school Ethernet) her stuff works (wireless) and the range is just about exactly the footprint of my house so no security concerns about snooping. Just bought a HP M125nw wireless printer, it migrated seamlessly into the mix and now GF enjoys wireless printing as well. I was skeptical. Now happy of the investment. Peace and quiet as we no longer have to share a wire to use the DSL So for less that $100 we got a hybrid mix that suits both our connectivity needs

I bought this for sharing wifi on a cruise ship for my family. I like this one because it has the capability to act as a hotspot. In layman's terms, you can connect to the ship's wifi and create a private wifi network for your family. I configured this to work with my home wifi and act as a hotspot. Mission accomplished. Even if the cruise line somehow tries to block this device Media Access Control (MAC) address, TP-Link has the ability to clone another device's MAC address (like your pc or iphone's MAC address). Overall, I have to say that if you are a newbie, you will struggle as the Administrative interface is very complex. If you follow the directions and you are patient, you will figure it out with the Admin's Wizard like tool. I had to do some command line snooping with my mac's airport utility to get my hidden SSID's BSSID number. I doubt the cruise's Wifi is a hidden SSID so you will not experience the challenges that I faced. I figure this thing will pay for itself the first day. 7/1/17 Update: Well, I successfully used this on the NCL ship Escape. This worked great. I tested using an ethernet cable from the back of the room's IP phone jack to the LAN/WAN jack of the travel router. I used the wizard and configured the router as a standard wireless router. This allows you to share the wifi connection with your other devices. In my case, all my kid's and wife's iPhone. I also tested the HotSpot functionality. It worked as well. I used the wizard and configured the router as a HotSpot. I just followed the directions and it worked great. I also tested the speed on this using speedtest by Ookla. The ethernet cable was faster since the LAN connection between the IP Phone and router is 10/100MB. In case you are wondering, I ran the test and achieved speeds of 3 Mbps. Not bad considering you are on a ship. Upload speed was horrible. .5Mbps. You are defintely not uploading videos with this. Let me know if you have any questions. If you are a "cruiser" than you should buy this. NCL was charging $125 for 250 minutes per device! Ouch!!!

JUNK... great idea but poor made Chinese product. Could never log into the mini router so it was never setup. Tried help desk, - good luck with that. Poor product, does not function and no customer support. Mine went into the trash can to be recycled into something that works - a $40 lesson learned. Save yourself the headache.

Bought this to travel with during work to make my chromecast work in hotel rooms. When it works, works just as advertised. Giving it 3 stars because it's really hit or miss getting through some hotel login screens. It's very strange because it's inconsistent with which hotel brands work and which don't. The hotels I stay at around usually Hilton, Hyatt, or SPG, I think I've had the most success with SPG and Hyatt, but there are still times when it doesn't work. Either way, because it's so small, I don't mind packing it in my suitcase.

This is a surprisingly capable unit for the size & price. You cant expect miracles from something so small in terms of wireless range but it performs better than expected. The features available also rival much larger, more expensive routers. It has basic traffic monitoring, filtering, and standard routing functions - everything most people would need. I bought it to connect an older non-wifi mac pro to my wireless network, which is served by multiple airport extremes & time capsules. I use it in client mode and it performs flawlessly. I had previously used a USB wifi adapter but the driver was not stable and would sometimes cause the mac to not be able to wake from sleep. This little unit allows the mac (or any other wired network device) to connect via a wire and then connects it to wifi. No drivers or 3rd party software required. Perfect.

I am a college student and live in an apartment complex where PavlovMedia is the internet service provider. They have the internet set up in a way where you can only connect five devices to their routers at a time and once you've made an account to set up those five devices, the connection is basically open to anyone. In addition, the router is not inside the apartment. They are placed outside in the hallways and have no ethernet connection, so there is no way to easily set up your own connection with a traditional router. I needed a router that had a WISP function. I added this router to my "five devices" and then set it up using the Public Hotspot function I believe. The set-up was easy, fast, and I was able to create a secure password-protected connection that I can add as many devices as I'd like to. I have not had any issues or a reduction in connection speed. I am so surprised that this small device does everything that I needed it to do at such an affordable price.

Este es mi 6to producto de la marca, y previamente ya habia comprado el WR710N, el cual por fuera es el mismo, pero (aparentemente) este tiene un chip wireless independiente, hasta ahora funciona perfecto, pero he logrado hacerlo funcionar como repetidor de señal

Buenas tardes este tipo de router se ve muy practico, pero falto el puerto USB que indicaba en el anuncio. Pero esta bien me quedare con el, para probarlo como router. Yo necesito uno con puerto USB, del cual me pudieran recomendar. Saludos.

Me salvo la vida, su uso es muy simple y la configuración no te lleva más de 3 minutos. Además el tamño hace posible llevarlo en un maletin siempre con la computadroa.

Al principio me costo trabajo configurarlo, las instrucciones no son claras. La cobertura es regular. Por lo de mas todo bien
