Maybe.
This is sharper than the other Mercer knife, a paring knife, I bought at the same time. I'm writing a review because I regret buying this knife. For close use of the point, like for deveining shrimp, removing the eye of a potato or coring a strawberry, holding it by the handle is unwieldy because the blade puts my hand too far away; I can't brace my thumb on the target or my other thumb on the handle to steady the cut. I'm used to gripping the blade of an ordinary paring knife between my thumb and 3 fingers for such tasks (and bracing with the thumb of the other hand if needed). It I try that with this knife, its curve puts the sharp edge too much on the pads of my fingers and the blade is too short to accept the full length of my thumb's pad opposed by 3 fingers. It works well and better than an ordinary paring knife for peeling an orange in a one piece spiral which is fun to do but I've got a plastic gadget that peels an orange better. I have large hands but even so I think it is too large for fine tasks. The molded handle is limiting, like a tractor seat it looks good but you'll find it has a downside (at least a tractor seat keeps you from bouncing off and running yourself over). I think I'll be keeping it a year in case I find a use then donating it. It looks like it could work really well for something.
