It is metal. It fits over my door and is secure. Working well for drying clothes.

Tall flat out 34 1/2ins, wide flat out wide 75ins up "Y" 60ins tall.

What is the Width? 17.32 or 26.77? The part that goes over door?

When folded closed, it is 17.32 deep by 27.66 wide. The dimension over the door isn't given. However, when in use and fully open, it's almost a square. So that dimension is closer to 27 inches than 17 inches. It's really terrific, I love mine and use it all the time plus it takes up no space.

Would this fit hanging over a sliding shower door? (the old thick kind, not the think modern glass)

I think it will. The “handles” that go over the door are almost 3,5 wide in other words it’ll fit over an almost 3,5 inch thick door.
