Scents are not the easiest to describe but it has a very pleasant clean scent and is not over powering is just fresh smelling.

Alcohols, C9-11, ethoxylated . In the future when you have questions about a products formulation you can google the products MSDS sheet. The MSDS gives you all the active ingredients and the potential harm they may cause you. But by inhaling fumes or by skin contact. Keep in mind the INERT additives are protected by law under non discloser. I suppose it keeps the competition guessing. If you are worried about carpet damage that's another thing. I used it and it was very mild, yet it did a wonderful job. The MSDS sheets are great. It works with very little effort

Best carpet cleaner I have ever used. It cleans deep and leaves a pleasant scent. I use it in my rug Doctor machine and it is super easy to use with outstanding results.
