**Q: can I use a rachet to tighten these?**
A: If you mean a socket wrench, I guess if you have a square socket you could, but I just used a crescent wrench

**Q: can this or something similar be used with 8mm polyrope?**
A: Should work fine if you attach firmly to spool. Spool is designed for wire/cable. If you cannot make rope attachment to spool work start off with short bit wire on spool make loop in wire & attach rope to wire & its ready to tighten .

**Q: Are these compatible with the tightener tool from tractor supply or should I purchase a different one to fit these?**
A: From what I've seen they are all the same design, try the one from Tractor supply it should work just fine. I use a 12 inch adjustable wrench to tighten mine.
