Hello-No, polystyrene petri dishes are not heat resistant. They will melt inside a pressure cooker. Please let us know if we can be of additional service.

Q: How much volume will each dish hold

Depends how full you fill them, I usually make 500ml agar per 20 dishes, I'm sometime a little short. It will vary, I'm working in front of a flow hood and in a suit, the jar I pour from is hot. So if I do the math that's about 25ml each, all less than half full, of course you dont fill them if you're working with agar and culture. Think I read "30ml," somewhere way back when, might be a safe place to start.

Q: Would these be safe to use for jello? I'm doing a mad scientist party for my daughter.

they are sterile so probably safer than the jello you put in them! They are hard plastic though, so could be sharp if stomped on.
