Kaytee Premium Potty Training Critter Litter for Rabbits & Ferrets, 8 lb

AWESOME training litter!!! My 3 month old rabbit litter box trained in 1 day!!! So pleased with this litter and how quickly my bunny took to using a litter box. It wasn't work at all! We line our litter box with newspaper and put the litter on top of it. Then put the metal litter box cage bottom over the litter. We put hay on top of the litter box cage bottom each day. The bunny loves to eat the hay and go to the bathroom at the same time! lol A couple times a week we scoop the poop off the top of the cage-like bottom, and once a week we completely dump the litter box. It slides out easily because of the newspaper. Otherwise, if you don't put newspaper on the bottom, the litter sticks to it and it is really messy to clean out. We also give him fresh hay everyday on his litter box because he eats it all! Well, another plus to a litter trained rabbit is that I now rarely have to clean up after him in the house anymore....only if we've had him out of his hutch for quite a while. Normally, he just goes to the litter box as soon as we return him to his hutch. Wonderful!!!Also for those wanting to litter train your rabbit: the very first time we put the litter box in the hutch, we put some of his droppings and a few small pieces of newspaper that had his urine on it. That way he would smell where his potty is. Worked like a charm!

So let me tell you my experience with this product: I love it! TIP: put a thin layer of a paper based litter product underneath and then a thicker layer of this product on top. It will make it 10 times easier to clean. We've been using it for a year with our rabbits and compared to other products made from paper, this one was the best controlling odors. That is a big deal for me, I wanted something that was odorless to begin with and that I kept it like that for as long as possible. We change it every 3 to 4 days and it holds up great!!The biggest complaint that you read out there is that once wet it turns into a clay material that hardens and it's hard to clean and that is true. But I found a solution for it. I buy this product and add a layer of it underneath the critter litter: Kaytee Soft Granule Blend Pet Bedding, 27-1/2-Liter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000JLPIWU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_m723xbDF3K3ZTThis way it's way easier to clean, doesn't stick to the litter box, and I still keep the benefits of it's odor controling qualities.Our rabbits love playing with it when it's just changed and used to make a mess. I just sprayed them with water when I saw them doing it and said 'No' the first days and now they got the idea that they can't do it. Overall, a great product, specially if you have your pets indoor and want to control the odors.

Buns prefer this over the paper pellets. I know they say it isn’t good for them but super easy to litter box train with these!

Purchased this Critter Litter for my Ferret because of all the great reviews and was hoping to switch her over. Unfortunately, she never did take to this litter to where I could use it as her main litter. I started off slow by mixing this litter with her other litter but, she just kicked all of the pellets out. So then I layered the bottom of her litter pan with this litter and put her litter on top. That seemed to work for a little while but she again kicked the litter out of the pan. The pellets on the bottom of the pan got really soggy and just made a big mushy mess. In the end, I just kept her on the litter of her choice.Luckily, the bag of critter litter did not go to waste, as a friend of mine has hamsters in her home that she recently purchased for her son so, I gave it to her. Looks like the hamsters really liked the litter and had no problems using it. She told me it worked well and was very easy to clean up. There was no problems with odors either.Gave it a try but, my ferret just did not like it. But,the hamsters enjoy this litter. Ferrets are just very picky little critters!

I used this litter for my guinea pig. I put the litter bin in the corner of the cage and filled it with the litter. In 2 hours time, I noticed my guinea pig was using it and I thought, "Wonderful! Now the cage bedding will last a few days longer!" However, in a couple of days, I noticed each corner of the cage was being utilized for evacuation. I normally clean the cage 1-2 times/week as there is only 1 guinea pig (Wilson) and was really hoping the litter box would allow me 1-2 times/every two weeks, of course with normal emptying of the litter box. That is where the problem lies. I went in 1 day later to empty the litter bin and noticed the pellets had become quite mushy; almost clay-like. I gave the cage a thorough clean and bathed my little piggie and found his poor little paws were caked with the wet cement remnants of the pellets. I had to soap and and soak his little claws and manually clean them out. No wonder he stopped using the litter bin after 1 day. I think it works to direct the guinea pig to evacuate in that spot, however, you will have to empty and replace everyday and that can get expensive... I decided to finish the bag of litter and have chosen not to buy it again as the regular cage filler works fine in his litter bin and he prefers it as he has been using his litter bin 70% and the corners of his cage 30%. If you are going to try this litter, you should change it at least once a day (depending on how much your little cavvy eats) because as soon as they empty their bladder, the pellets will turn to mush and it is not fun to clean that out. Also, I have lined my piggies cage with fleece liners which he seems to like as he doesn't relieve himself on them. Hope that helps! :)

After buying a bigger fancier cage for our Netherland Dwarf (who resides in our kitchen), he was now going to be in the litter instead of the poo falling through the bars. I did a ton of research and discovered this stuff. I bought a corner litter box and put about 1/2"-1 inch of this litter in the pan.The rest of the cage is filled the Kaytee Soft Granule Bedding. At first I put a few poos in his corner litter box, and from then on he's only going in there. The rest of the cage is beautiful. This stuff is amazing! It never ever smells! The pan looks bad after a week (we've pushed it to 2 weeks) but never smells. When we clean it, his poos are on top and the liquid is on the bottom.This stuff is like clay when wet and soaks it all up. It has to be scraped out with a big spoon. Then it smells really bad (do this outside). We wipe out the pan, wash it out, dry it and fill it again. No more terrible bunny cage wafts from the kitchen into the livingroom!

It turns into a paste when wet from urine so not a fan of that it sticks to the plastic container so here's a better option get the littermaid Walnut litter at Walmart it's $2.50 a bag it works perfectly and if you desire a little more scent in your litter for your Critters just add a little bit of the corn litter it has a very subtle sent this is littermaid brand you'll save a bundle and it works so much better than this what we do for our ferrets is we have the ferret litter box and then I set it on top of a lid from a large container so that it collects any of the stuff they track out then each morning I take the lid outside in the backyard and just hose the litter off of it there is usually no poo poops but it keeps from the litter getting on your floor works like a charm be sure and turn the lid lip up we're upside down just so that it has little walls around it so it does not let the pieces of litter get on the floor works like a charm

We got this to try as an alternative to the So Phresh paper pellets. We had no complaints about the paper pellets effectiveness but we were finding some droppings in other places around the cage. Since changing, all the dropping are now in the litter boxes. The cage also stays fresh longer; probably also a result of them using the litter boxes more consistently. Note: This is slightly more expensive to change out every week than the paper pellets, unless you want to pick out the droppings instead (not actually hard to do).

Great price and a great product. The litter balls are ALOT bigger in diameter than the little packs you buy in store but definitely more absorbent and doesnt smell as bad. I dont have to change it as often and my hamsters like it alot. Thanks!

I'd say that it was partial clumping, I put a puppy pad underneath so that absorbed alot of pee moreover than the litter, but I expect it would have absorbed it if it had spread in the base of the pan. slight clay clump of the balls and spooned the affected section out of the litter pan. didn't smell anything.I was recommended to buy this for a hedgehog and the balls were all circular dry balls when putting in the litter pan, but I think she was eating them because the bottom of the pan had alot of broken bits, so I am not going to use again for this application. I did catch her in the night licking them and pushing her hog nose snuffling about and found them around the outside of the pan, also alot of quills in the bottom which makes me think she was rolling about in it. Not suitable for hedgehogs, but I would recommend for cats as they don't behave the same.

Critter litter does potty training for you. After months of trying positive reinforcement on our rats as the way for potty training we gave it a go and bought this amazing thing. They instantly started using the potty tray and no more training was needed. All nine of them know where to go now. And the best thing is ultra absorbent and control the smells very effectively. Very very happy. Will definitely reorder every time.
