I could not get it to strip a 12 gauge wire.** A: There is a tension adjustment, which helps but I typically leave mine on the most firm setting. With larger wires like 10 or 12ga, I find I need to add a pressure to the top of the jaws for a firm enough grip. Typically I am already holding the wire with my off hand and it's now second nature. Where this tool really excellent is stripping 18-24ga multi-conductor cables. You can strip the outer coating and multiple inner strands at once with the same tool. The only thing I roll off the tension for is solid bell or thermostat wire. The stripping end will dig into the solid copper and the other end will bunch the coating up away from the wire end. **Q: Will this work for speaker wire?** A: I haven't had any luck with it on Genesis Speaker wires in 16 and 14 gauge.
