can i use these to consume phytoplankton in freshwater tank?

No. This is coral food. If to much is added it will cause high nutrients that will cause hair algue. Snails, hermit crabs & a sponge for plankton build up. Watch your hours of light & setting levels for the light. Hair algue use emerald crabs, sea hair slugs or other clean up crews from your local salt water store
