## Overview

The AC Infinity AIRPLATE S1 is a compact, ultra-quiet 4-inch cooling fan system designed specifically for home theater and AV cabinets. Featuring a CNC machined aluminum frame with a modern brushed black finish, it delivers 26 CFM airflow at just 17 dBA noise. The fan includes a multi-speed controller for precise airflow and noise management, dual ball bearings rated for 67,000 hours, and a turbo adapter that boosts performance by 25%. Powered via USB or wall outlet, it supports daisy-chaining up to six units for enhanced cooling capacity.

## Description

Product DescriptionThe ultra-quiet fan system is designed to cool home theaters, entertainment centers, and audio video cabinets. Features a speed controller and 6 foot power cord. Included fans use a custom motor engineered to minimize noise during speed variations and are certified by CE, UL, TUV, and RoHS. Containing dual ball bearings rated at 67,000 hours, the unit can be mounted in any direction. Features a CNC machined aluminum frame with a modern brushed black finish. Fans are set to exhaust air out the frame but this can be reversed to intake air using a screw driver. Includes all necessary hardware to easily mount the unit onto a cabinet and power it through an USB port or standard wall outlet.Speed Controller and Boost AdapterThe in-line multi-speed controller with power switch allows setting the fan’s speed to optimal noise and airflow levels for various environments. The included Boost Adapter not only allows the fan to be powered through a wall outlet, but increases its performance by up to 25%.Connecting Additional UnitsFor cabinets that requires more airflow, each fan unit can daisy chain additional AIRPLATE S series cabinet fans: AIRPLATE S1 (AI-CFS80BA), AIRPLATE S3 (AI-CFS120BA), AIRPLATE S5 (AI-CFD80BA), and AIRPLATE S7 (AI-CFD120BA). Up to six units can share the same USB or wall outlet power source. AIRPLATE S3/T3 contains one fan, AIRPLATE S7/T7 contains two fans, and AIRPLATE S9/T9 contains three fans.ApplicationsThis ultra-quiet cooling system is popular in a variety of applications including home theaters, entertainment centers, and audio video cabinets; and smaller enclosures and racks holding computers, receivers, amplifiers, and other AV equipment.

Review: Not strong - Not as mentioned
Review: I bought one 4" (80mm) AC Infinity fan without the controller to cool the enclosed CPU section of my desk. I have a desktop computer housed in the desk CPU enclosure that puts off a substantial amount of heat and within 1-2 hours, I measured the temperature inside the desk CPU enclosure to be around 84F. Electronic components typically don't like being run in temperatures higher than 85F and will have a reduced lifespan if they are run hotter than 85F. My desk already had a preexisting opening from under the desk surface (where my feet go) to the top of the CPU enclosure. This opening was designed to allow monitor cables to be run from the top of the desk into the CPU compartment and measured 3.9" x 6.9". I installed the fan (blowing out) at the top of the opening and closed off the remaining bottom portion with a plate. The AC Infinity fan runs off an integrated USB port located on the back of my computer and (seemingly without effort) keeps the desk CPU enclosure at almost room temperature (plus maybe 1-2 degrees). Note: I did NOT have to use the USB "turbo" converter that came with the fan. I also did not drill any new ventilation holes into the desk CPU enclosure for air intake. It would appear that the natural 1mm cracks around the closed doors on both sides of the desk CPU enclosure are sufficient for allowing room temperature air to flow into the desk CPU enclosure. The really cool thing (no pun intended :)) is that when the computer goes to sleep, it not only stops producing heat but ALSO shuts down the integrated USB port which in turn shuts off the AC Infinity fan. It is a perfect system that negates the need for the optional AC Infinity fan controller. The AC Infinity fan runs so quietly that in a dead silent room, I can't tell if the slight hum I hear is from the AC Infinity fan or the louder fan located in my computer's power supply within the cabinet. I HIGHLY recommend this fan for this application! I have also used the AC Infinity 6" (120mm) fans in my much larger home entertainment cabinets and they also perform very well and very quietly. Update: After writing this review, I tried running the fan on the low setting and the temperature inside the CPU enclosure did begin to (very slowly) creep up. Also, on the low setting, the slight hum disappears (to my ears anyway). So, the fan running on high setting does add to the hum. I'm going to watch to see if on the low fan setting the temp stops rising at some point. If not, I'll run the fan on the high setting and not worry about it. I still don't need to use the "turbo" wall USB adapter that claims a 25% increase of airflow. But, it is nice to know I have that option if I add heat producing components to my desk's CPU enclosure.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: can you hear the fan, how quiet is it?**
A: Yes you can hear it at every speed, even on the lowest speed. I have the two-fan 6-inch version (total 12"x6" grille. I'm a LITTLE disappointed but not enough to prevent me from purchasing another of the same for the Receiver area of my AV cabinet. Do NOT expect these fans to be silent.

**Q: How can I control when this turns on and off without having to upgrade to the model with a thermostat? If I plug it into my Yamaha receiver usb output**
A: It has a toggle switch. Manual, but not terrible. If it's plugged into something that you turn on and off, it'll run when that component is turned on.

**Q: Is it better to Mount where the Fan pulls out the Heat from the Cabinet or better to blow Air into Cabinet?**
A: It's better to mount where it will pull the heat OUT, thereby bringing in cooler air unimpeded by other airflow inside the cabinet. If you blow air into the cabinet, it may not be able to exit as quickly and you would get air blowing back around the inside of the cabinet and impeding airflow into the cabinet. Think of it his way, if you blow into a paper cup with a fairly small hole in it, you can only "blow" so much air in and the rest comes back out at you. to avoid this potential problem, you will get the maximum airflow through the cabinet by pulling in air that is exhausted out by the fan.

**Q: What is the size of the hole that has to be cut in the cabinet?**
A: The fan comes with a clear plastic template to guide you. Just tape it to the cabinet wall you are mounting the fan onto. The hole is about 5 inches square. The face/lip of the fan is about 5 3/4 inches square. You also must drill 4 holes for the mounting screws - also made easy using the template. For me, it took 10 minutes to hand-saw through the thin, paneling-like board backing of my entertainment cabinet. 10 minutes to mount the fan with 4 screws. It took 2 minutes to plug it into an unused USB port on my amplifier for fan power. Now, my whole 7 component system stays cool. After watching a movie, it took 15 minutes to clean up my mess.

Bought 2 along with a temperature probe to keep a media cabinet cool that houses a SKY box and router. The fans are well packaged and look quality. Templates included for fitting, along with all necessary screws. Reversing the fans is also easy (I've one for inflow, and the 2nd for outflow), and both fans and probe are connected to a single power outlet. On low, the fans cannot be heard, and even on high you would struggle to hear them above other background or TV noises. Very impressed.
