The is by the structure of the the foam material that the pad is made out of. Example: The orange pad structure is stiffer and then the black foam pad. If you are looking to get swirls or light scratches out use the f orange pad with a mild cutting material. Make your first tow passes over your area at moderate speed first then at a higher speed to complete the process. The pad alone does not do the work it is the cutting material that you choose. The black pad is a softer construction polishing pad that you would use with a polish or finessing material and use the same routine. Remember low speed first in both direction followed by higher speed. Do not lift your buffer up while the pad is spinning at high speed our you may throw material off the pad and remember to clean the buffing area with a clean microfiber towel between applications and clean your pad with a pad cleaning brush when you start to see accumulation. Apply pad conditioner to your pad between applications to help the process. **Q: Will it work with black+decker wp900 6-inch random orbit waxer/polisher? (has a 6" back plate)** A: Yes it should.
