So is this necessary when using gel polish or acrylic on nails? Or can i honestly just use isopropyl alcohol??

You can use either one because they both take off the sticky layer of gel. Pure alcohol can dry out the nails a little more at times but it was only noticable after I used it to clean off clear/transparent gel colors.
