I can't say this won't work for some people, but my hair is thick and has a medium type wave or curl, but is very soft. This thing ripped hair out of my head with every pass through, it was pretty painful. I mainly got this for my 11 year old, who has mostly straight, thin hair, just some mild waves. I figured it would be good for her to quickly put a nice finished look on her hair before school etc. However, because her hair is fine, it slipped right through and did absolutely nothing. Also, if there are any waves close to the scalp or face, you can forget it, in any hair type circumstance. I fired it up the day it came in and used it on me, my 18 year old, and my 11 year old and it was overall, a fail for all 3 of us. I am returning it and will just teach her how to safely use a real flat iron.
