Does this come with an installation kit?

I bought a used one and it was missing all the pieces for installation, was rusted, and smelled like mold.

-what adapter is need it to connect to fridge water line?

This unit uses the standard ice maker diameter hose. It is best to put the the supplied valve as close to source as possible. You would need a t adapter BEFORE the supplied valve in order to split off two ways to the fridge and to the valve. This t adapter is not supplied and the supplied valve may not fit your American piping. Be prepared to make adjustments to the installation. Installation was not hard, but patience and a trip to the hardware store should be expected. It is important to make the water split before the valve because the flow will have to be turned off many times during installation, if there is a leak and when flushing the filters. Otherwise, you are cutting water off the fridge unnecessarily.

Will this still work without the filters (can the filters be bypassed)?

Water will spray everywhere from where the filters should be.
