Must-Have Car Battery Tester – Easy to Use, instructions provided in review
Amazing for the price. You won’t be disappointed! Works straight out of the box, with no batteries or charging needed since it’s powered directly from the car.The instructions aren’t the best, so for those who might not know: connect it to the car by attaching the Positive (red) clamp to the positive terminal of the car battery first, then connect the Negative (black) clamp to the negative terminal on the battery. It can test batteries both in and out of the car.The device will power on once connected, and you get three options for testing the battery with step-by-step instructions. The three options are Battery Test, Cranking Test, and Charging Test. The Battery Test will determine the health of a battery, the Cranking Test will measure the battery's ability to start the engine, and the Charging Test will measure the voltage of the battery while the vehicle is running to determine if the battery and alternator are working. If you think you have a bad alternator, use this device first and run through the tests. It provides straightforward results (as shown in the photo) that tell you if the battery is good, needs to be replaced, or if the alternator has no output.Couldn’t recommend this device enough

Repeatable and useful, does what I need
This does what I expect, and makes repeatable measurements. This device measures capacitance of the battery, indicated in Ohms, then estimates cranking amp capacity using math. This device is NOT a fool-proof way to determine if you have a bad battery. It is possible that battery damage or wear exists that may indicate "healthy" but in fact will fail under a high draw, when starting an engine. What this device DOES do is give a good indication of the general health of the battery. It will reliably identify clearly bad batteries, batteries with serious internal problems, etc., and it will pretty reliably indicate a fairly healthy battery.I actually use it mostly to establish if battery repairs via desulfation methods, are actually improving the battery health. Also, to make sure my battery is not trash before driving off on a trip. The best way to be sure a battery is healthy is to double check with real load testing.I can't speak to quality control, but the unit I received does exactly what I want at a good price and value.

Great Value and better than a digital voltmeter
Better than a DVM.Much cheaper than a shop-grade Automotive Battery Tester.Easy to use. Detects most Battery Problems.Pros:1. Easy to Use, Compact and Inexpensive.2. Tests wide variety of 12V Auto Batteries.3. Checks Engine Starting and Battery Charging health.Cons:1. Skimpy Manual with small TypeFont.2. Valid Analysis depends on correct CCA and Battery type inputs.3. Can’t confirm battery performance at low temperature.Precautions:Test the battery directly at it's terminals. Some cars like Hybrids, have Remote Jump Start terminals. Using the more convenient Engine bay terminals may give false 'BAD Battery' results.Detailed Analysis:1. Tested one 3S 12.5V Lithium Battery, four AGM Flat-Plate Batteries, four FloodedCell LeadAcid batteries, six autos (Two Hybrids), and two inboard V8 Boats.2. Detection of common issues:a. GOOD: Charging System healthy voltages and quality (AC Ripple).b. GOOD: Low battery voltages, bad cells, loss of capacity.c. GOOD: Cranking current under test conditions and comparison to Rated Cold Cranking Current.d. MARGINAL: No direct indication of battery capacity (Amp-Hour Capacity). 5 year old Flooded Pb Starter battery with only 1 Amp-Hour usable capacity tested as good when charged.e. MARGINAL: Probably not able to predict all Cold Starting issues.December 2023 Update: AVOID testing batteries in Hybrid vehicles from the remote 'Jump Start' Ports! Picking the Test Standard (CCA, MCA, etc.):1. I tested a 4year old Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Battery and it reported a low Cranking Amp Reading with a recommendation to "REPLACE" when tested at the 'Jump Start' Posts in the engine compartment (The 12V battery is in the Left Rear Side compartment inside the minivan). When the battery was removed and tested directly at the battery., they results was "GOOD" battery with a nominal ColdCrankingAmp reading.2. There are a large number of 'Test Standards' including CCA, MCA, etc. to choose. For example, most Starter batteries in the US are rated for CCA (Cold Cranking Amps at 0F). Use this to provide an accurate assessment against the Battery's Rating. Use the MCA (Marine Cranking Amps) for boat applications where the operating temperature is 32F. The MCA readings will be generally higher (better) than the CCA.

For the price, I think it’s very good!
I bought this primarily because I had been dropping off some used motor oil to my city collection center and saw a pallet of used batteries submitted for recycling. Among them was an Optimus Blue Top combination starter and deep cycle battery commonly used in boats. This is about a $400 battery so I thought what the heck and took it home to see if it would hold a charge. Sure enough it charged up just fine and seemed ok. However, I know a battery can show full charge but still not have the cranking amps. This is a spiral agm battery so I set the unit accordingly and tested it. It tested good on both CCA and MCA. So lucky me. I also have a car that I just put a remanufactured battery in (bad idea, don’t waste your money) but the cranking rate seemed slow. No CCA rating was printed on the battery so I just guessed 550 and tested it. It tested ok but not great. Lastly, I have an old jeep that remarkably has had the same battery in it for over 15 years. If I kept on a 1 amp charger during periods of no use (a week or more) it will still start the car just fine and continue to start it if in daily use. The load tester showed to replace the battery. That battery is no going thru several repair cycles with a 5 amp NOCO charger. I’ll let you know how it works out.It also worked fine for testing the alternator. In summary, for a diy’er, I think this is a fine tool. It is solidly made, the wires are heavy enough and long enough, and the clamps are very well contructed and hold tight. One reviewer indicated the instructions are microscopic and very broken english and was kind enough to give some alternate instructions. However, it is very intuitive to use so once you’ve done it, you’ve got it. For $25, go for it.P.S. - i highly recommend NOCO Chargers. A touch on the pricey side but very high quality.

Takes the Guesswork Out of Battery Testing
I bought this because I have batteries in just about everything—my camper, boat, tractor, lawn equipment, and a few vehicles that sit for periods of time. Instead of replacing batteries because I thought they were bad, I wanted a way to know for sure. This tester has been exactly what I was looking for. It's very easy to use, gives results quickly, and the readings have seemed accurate based on what I've seen with charging and replacing batteries. It's also nice that it tests more than just voltage, helping you get a better picture of the battery's overall health. It's already saved me from replacing batteries unnecessarily and has given me confidence when I do need to replace one. For anyone with multiple vehicles or equipment that sits seasonally, I think this is a worthwhile tool to have in the garage. It has definitely earned its spot in my toolbox.

Gave a better diagnosis than Costco's tester (at least this time)
Inexpensive and works really well. I had a vehicle with a brand new Interstate battery from Costco and the car failed to start every few days. I spent a LOT of time trying to find a parasitic draw and not finding one, I decided to use this to test my brand new battery. The tester failed the battery and when I took it to Costco, their tester said it was good. I was adamant about the battery and Costco, of course, replaced the battery for me. I haven't had any problems with the new battery. So, this little guy actually gave a better call than the Interstate tester that Costco uses.

Good options, weak plastic
Unit works great and options are great. Hing of the plastic alligator clip broke after 1 year of occasional use.
