Are these clips good for african american curly hair? i have long, think curly hair and i am looking for a good clip for wash day.

They get stuck in my hair, they will definitely get stuck in yours. There is an exposed spring at the front of each clip and they catch.

How do you use these clips?

You use them just like a regular clip, but they can hold a lot more hair. I use mine 2-3 days a week. Not only do I love the pastel colors but they are gentle on my hair. Highly recommend them.

would these work better than volumizing root clips?

No they can be a little hard to get out, and they will leave a mark if on damp/dry hair.
