Unbelievably good at absorbing gut irritants.
I purchased this Bentonite clay almost against my will. First, I am fairly confident I have a Candida infection in my gut. What's unclear is if there is something else in there too. We'll just have to see when the test results come back. What is known is I have a gut infection. And all the products for Candida work for me. Of course the problem with killing anything that resides in your gut is the toxins produced by the die off. First, just having something burst their innards straight into your gut will release something undesirable but worst, most of these critters produce special death toxins which are a defensive mechanism meant to poison whatever killed them. Ahhh! It's working! It felt as if there were something burning in my gut all the time. I started off with activated charcoal which was helpful. But it seemed to increase my diarrhea. The more I took, the more the gut felt better but the worse the diarrhea. Bummer. So I switched to the bentonite clay. I was physically repulsed by the thought of eating this stuff and it took a while. So, first I discovered I have been paying way too much for clay facials. Way. Too. Much. This stuff makes a superb facial mask and if you mix it up warm really comforting too. I like to use a 5:1 ratio of water to clay. to make a thinner, easier to spread warm goo. Finally, I tried it internally as the gut pain was reaching new heights. My first few attempts, I failed to mix it sufficiently getting some lumpiness. Drinking it lumps and all - seemed helpful but didn't live up to the rave reviews. It did work better than the activated charcoal. The next day, I felt almost constipated. After that, I got used to the clay. New procedure - double the amount of water - shake, rest. Repeat until the clay dissolves. Usually, the entire procedure takes about 1- 2 hours and 3 shakes. Much better. The larger volume of water seems to help because it spreads the clay over the entire gut really quickly. About 5-10 minutes after I drank it the pain receded. After this, I rather looked forward to drinking the clay. I even managed to tolerate the grittiness in my mouth and to look forward to it instead of spitting frantically. But the clay is really just a bandaid. Yes, it absorbs toxins. Yes, it helps you form stools. Yes, it helps your gut heal because it relieves the assault on your GI track. But it's not enough. I noticed that my diarrhea resolved but only in the presence of clay. I was in just as much pain the rest of the time. My problem? I'd stopped the damage but I wasn't providing the gut with enough support for healing to occur. So assuming your troubles and mine are the same (yeah, you might want to talk to a doctor about that : ) Heal the gut: 2-3 gm of glutamate (absorbed by the gut as fuel) Probiotics (Saccharomyces boulardii will fight inflammation in the gut) Fiber (to feed the probiotic - PGX is the best fiber out there - and yes, it made a huge difference for me) Resistant starch (Bobs Red Mill unmodified potato starch) - feeds your probiotics which breaks it down into short-chain fatty acids. Some of these fatty acids can by used directly by the gut for energy and they fight gut inflammation. These starches do NOT raise blood glucose levels. Collagen: the gut needs collagen to heal. You can get collagen by drinking bone broth or by using collagen supplements. Prop up broken digestion (constant gas, bloating, GERD could be a sign of low stomach acid, on the other hand, if your stomach acid is fine, you could give yourself an ulcer with this stuff.)
