What is the life shelf of the unopened Cyalume snaplight?

You all are going to think I'm making up stories, but I found a group of the Cyalume SnapLight sticks that was with some dry first aid materials that goes back to before Y2K. Perfect experiment, I thought. The green ones still glowed very brightly and although not bright were still visible 12 hours later. These things are really amazing.

Depends on your use... for brightness, without a doubt green. 2 reasons to get technical, first the chemical make up allows that color to glow brightest, and second is that the human eye sees this color better than any other light wavelength. If you're looking for "flares" though and need red, your best bet would be a strobe light. The red snap lights are good for low-light needs (hence using red lens flashlights in the military to read maps as the human eye doesn't pick this light up at low levels), but nowhere near what you would need for safety. Blues and whites are in the middle but don't nearly as long -better off with a LED flashlight. Go green...

Can they be stored in freezing temps in a car? Gets Brutal in NY in the winter

Will these give enough light to read if you need to find emergency phone numbers in phone book?

I was in a pitch black room door closed and no windows when I tried it out and I was able to find my locker and see the combination numbers on my lock. I thought it was pretty good. I'm sure you'd be able to see some emergency numbers in your phone book with this product. Hope this helped.

Works a year after it “expired.”

UPDATE: guess to save some bucks they no longer come in a box. I prefer the box over loose in a bag, but it is what it is. Purchased a box way back in 2020 (it’s June 2026) and cracked one open recently. It is still bright and lasted beyond 8 hours. That’s pretty good for a glow stick that “expired” in 04/2025. Everyone should keep a box of glow sticks for emergencies. Keep some at home, put some in your bug out bag (you really should have one) and in your vehicle.

These are excellent chemical lights

Package of 10 chemlights, not sure why that other poster claimed one. These are excellent chemical lights, they are much brighter and last longer than the other similar sized chemical lights sold here on amazon. The packages are individually marked with expiry dates which is great, I previously purchased a different brand which was only a little cheaper and the quality was MUCH LOWER than true Cyalume snaplights. A fun use for the lights are as bubble bath toys for the kids, just freeze them after each bath and they will last like 5 baths.

Was very good didn't have all in right couler but he contacted me and sent more than 20 instead of ten Ad where very bright and lasted a long time
