Do you do these raw? or already cooked?

Raw. I think they would be too mushy to use after they are cooked. It worked pretty well though. Better than the little tool that you have to pull them through a bean at a time!

Does the Norpro French bean slicer cut the beans diagonally, or straight down the length of the bean? The YouTube video showed only the latter.

The Norpro slicer cuts straight down the length of the green bean and doesn't cut the bean diagonally (one generally finds diagonally cut green beans, also called "Julienne," at the grocery store.) Some of the customers who answered my question were delighted with the Norpro product, some very disappointed. Other reviews go into the specific pros and cons.

my answer is no, it does not state dishwasher safe anywhere on the box.

Can it cut other vegetables

Probably not, it’s designed for string beans. Great tool cut the prep time to French Cut string beans.
