Is this really a "cream" or can it be used like a serum? I.e. – should it be put on first or last in my skincare routine? Thanks.

What percentage of retinol is in this?

Hi Calico51, Thank you for your question! Our cream contains Retinaldehyde at 0.1025%. Retinaldehyde is a more stabilized form of Vitamin A in the skin, due to its' ability to convert Vitamin A into the cellular form of retinol. This form provides a more effective dermal response. Used this for a couple of weeks now. And i just got red reactions around the spots I applied it to. What’s causing this?

I definitely understand your concern, so I want to start off right away by reassuring you that redness is absolutely normal when using the serum. To explain the serum a little better, hydroquinone works to inhibit melanin production in the treated areas. Without melanin, the skin will lighten. However, dark spots often permeate all the way through each layer of skin, and the upper layer is mostly dead skin cells which are unaffected by melanin anyway, so hydroquinone can be quite slow to show results. To speed things up, we include our formulation of acids to help speed up cell turnover so the dead spots will peel away. Cell turnover is natural, the upper layer of skin is being replaced all the time, but speeding it up can cause the skin to peel, exposing sensitive new skin that's often a pink or red color. When this happens, it is important to let the skin peel naturally and not to pick at it, or to try and remove the layer of skin yourself as it may not be ready to peel yet and this can cause undue irritation. To help strengthen the new skin you should use a high quality, nourishing moisturizer as soon as the serum dries, as well as a soothing product like aloe vera or rose hips. (A retinol moisturizer works very well with this serum, as retinol boosts the effects of hydroquinone) You should also wear high-SPF sunscreem while in the sun, both to protect the sensitive skin and to prevent rebound pigmentation. For most people, the redness will go away on its own in just a few days, though it can take up to a few weeks in some cases. If you have not seen improvement in the next few days, you can take a break from the serum and just use a moisturizer and soothing product until your skin has had time to strengthen back to normal. You can then start the serum back up slowly as in the beginning, using the serum every other day and working your way up to daily and finally twice daily use. I’m confident with continued use you will begin to see results, and the redness will go away. Please do keep us updated on your results over time if you decide to keep trying.

I bought this for my face to help even out skin tone and keep acne at bay, but I ended up using it on my knees and various food allergy rashes to help with scarring and getting rid of the itch. Let me explain. I’m allergic to pretty much everything. I even have a mild allergy to any and all foods that have been factory processed (like even a simple can of organic beans can make me itchy)so despite my best efforts I’m constantly breaking out in little rashes on my elbows and if it’s really bad I get a patch on my back and neck. These rashes are itchy af and if I scratch them they end up even more inflamed and leave scratching scars. I’ve tried all the salves and cortisone creams on the shelves and have even used prescription medicated creams. They all eventually get rid of the itch, but did nothing for the scarring. One day I ran out of cortisone cream and I used this stuff. You guys? It’s like the heavens opened up and a host of angels sang me a sweet healing lullaby. Instant relief! Not only did I get relief and the hives went down, the scars eventually started to fade as well! The dark patch on my back is now the same color as the rest of me and my elbows( where the worst scarring was) are significantly improved. I want to mention that I’m African American and I scar deeply, darkly and easily so I’m literally shocked at how fast this has faded my scars. I even use it as part of a treatment I randomly created to lighten my knees. They are now almost the same color as the rest of my knee skin and my knees have been dark since I was 7 and did not heed my mothers advice when she told me to stop crawling around on my knees because they would darken.😖 I know this stuff is supposed to be for your face, but it has SO MANY uses! It also works on my forehead acne around my hairline when I take a break from my other serums and such so... It’s kind of one of my favorite products at the moment and I’d definitely recommend it.
