This is the best formulation I've found for thyroid suppression (via binding) in a cat. L-Carnitine is known to be useful in binding thyroid hormone and, with supervision of a veterinarian and liberal blood testing (the same testing that must be done with use of prescription thyroid suppression methods to monitor the decline of T4 levels), this has been very successful in lowering levels in animals with milder hyperthyroidism. The problem, however, is finding a dose that will work for a small animal. A large dog can take this 250mg capsule whole. But a small dog or, as is usually the case with pets suffering hyperthyroidism, a cat, cannot. This pill has two benefits: it is a capsule you can open to gauge lower doses and deliver them throughout the day and it is a lower dose to begin with (250mg as opposed to 500mg or 1000mg which would be too hard to split accurately). I give my boy about 125mg split throughout the day into smaller doses and add to that a low dose of a pure melatonin capsule at a dose of 1mg per day (split up, of course) and he is back down the four points he needed to get "normal" again and not be hyperthyroid. If his levels increase, we already have a plan for slowly increasing the L-Carnitine and Melatonin to match the illness and keep him healthy and, to be clear, that would not be possible without a high quality 250mg capsule of L-Carnitine. I trust this brand, have used it for years not only for myself but for my animals. This L-Carnitine is also perfectly sized for cardiac support in our 70 pound dog and he can swallow it whole. This is a good supplement for after working out. My son swears by it and says it helps his shoulder pain and joints after his workouts. It's a NOW product and we use many of their products in my household, always good, fresh, and affordable.

Can't use a lot . Small trace amounts but it helps
