An incredible forbidden love story
THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO surpassed my expectations. I absolutely loved every page of this book! The story spans several decades, and it’s set against the backdrop of the glittery Hollywood film industry. But all that glitters is not gold! Recluse Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, we learn more about her seven husbands along the way! The burning question and one everyone wants the answer to is, ‘who was the love of her life?’ Evelyn Hugo insists that Monique a journalist, will be the one to write her tell-all biography, but why? And what connects the two? Most of the narrative is from Evelyn POV as she reminisces about her past and chapters interspersed with the present, where we learn more about Monique. The narrative and the characters are second to none. TJR captures the very essence of her characters. I convinced myself that this was a real life Hollywood star! Evelyn is flawed, ruthless, she’s manipulative and very selfish, but I loved her! She frustrated me; she made me angry, my heart broke for her, but she is unforgettable! And as each husband comes and goes, you love her a little more. The real reason for Evelyn picking Monique is intriguing, and kept me guessing all the way to the dramatic revelation. There are so many characters that made this book a joy to read. Some will worm their way into your heart, others will leave you cold, but each one adds a depth to the story that made this book such a joy to read. I adored reading Evelyn’s rag to riches story, the glitz and glamour, the scandals, the heartbreak and her incredible forbidden love story. Highly recommended.

My first TJR book…and certainly not the last.
I haven’t read in a good while. Paperbacks are heavy and I have no time during the day to read, so reading in bed is the best bet. But I reiterate; Paperbacks can be heavy. So I dug out my kindle. I’ve had so many online friends tell me to “Read Seven Husbands, read Seven Husbands!”. So I bought Seven Husbands. It sat on my Kindle homepage unread until this past January. Okay it was a week unread, but I could hear my friends judgements upon it not being read yet. I started it…and I devoured it. Each of the seven husbands are so complex, so un-black and white that you just turn page after page wanting more from them, wanting more for dear Evelyn. And the little cliffhangers between each chapter of Evelyn’s perspective and Monique’s? Scintillating. I didn’t put this book down. And when I did? I bawled like a baby. Yes, Evelyn had Seven Husbands. But all that didn’t seem to matter as much as other things…Read the book to find out more, fellow reader. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Easy read, Interesting characters and surprising LGBT+ themes
Loved the surprising themes and complex character. Although not completely likeable Evelyn is strong and independent yet flawed in a number of ways which makes her a lot more realistic than some Hollywood actors. Also enjoyed the premise of another woman trying to carve a name for herself by writing the story of Evelyn Hugo, a bit of thought went into it and paid off.

Fantastic from start to finish.
Really enjoyed this novel: an easy, well-paced read. Engaging all the way through. Interesting characters, who aren’t necessarily likeable, as in Daisy Jones and the Six.

Great read
I really enjoyed this book. Totally different to my usual thrillers but I thought Evelyn Hugo was a superb character and the story was interesting and well told.
