Crown Molding Hanger by Smithline; Crown Molding Installation

So I was remodeling my house and doing everything solo unfortunately, these made crown molding 100 times faster, easier, and better end results. Super easy to use, small enough to keep around until next time you need them, and extremely helpful. I highly recommend.

Works great, does exactly what it was made for.

These allowed me to hang molding on ladder by myself... so it does the job. However, it could be improved a lot with minor tweaks. You either have to measure and mark the distance from the ceiling around your perimeter or eyeball the distance from the ceiling which isn't easy due to it requiring a nail in a position unrelated to the molding height. Extending the back piece to adjust to rest on the ceiling properly distanced would help immensly for productivity and if they added ruler markings would avoid screw ups. A better fastening mechanism would be useful as the current one requires holding the back piece in place supporting one part of molding that tends to put pressure and torque on the support then loosening the hand nut and sliding the front piece up to where the molding should stay then tighting the nut. Pushing up the back part at all pushes it off of the nail its hanging from even when properly loosened as they don't slide smoothy even without a load but when supporting a decent section of molding bends and torques so it really doesn't want to slide smoothly. This can be mildly annoying or bring everything crashing down. It could use a notch or some marked area for supporting molding better as it simply supports molding at the meeting of the two parts but it doesn't support the molding rotationally well, allowing it to twist and turn a lot even when the locking nut is tightened. Then the plastic flexes enough to prevent easily setting the angle of the junction. If the notch could be thinner than the existing structure it would fix another problem. Their thickness forces a significant distance between them to avoid molding bowing out from crossing these hangers while having three would make installation much easier than one on each end. Also plastic is weak and flexible so large chunks of molding can strain it and create torque. Designing it to allow them closer together and including at least 3 would work much better.

I have been using these for a while before posting a review.I purchased extra for longer runs,these are like having 2 extra helpers to hold Crown Molding before attaching.Just measure from ceiling attach then adjust as needed to hold Molding in place.

This product was a lifesaver for me when I was hanging crown molding at my mom's house. They left my hands free for using my nailer and making fine adjustments to the position of the molding. The hangers were such a big help that I immediately ordered a second set so I could better position my corners while nailing. In fact, if money were not a factor, I would have loved to have a pair for each wall so I could have all my molding hanging prior to nailing so it would be easier for fine tuning. They are definitely worth the money.

This device enabled me to complete my crown molding job without help but I had to stray from the instructions to get it to work. The user is directed to drive a roofing nail through the drywall about an inch down from the ceiling without saying it is necessary to make sure you hit a stud. On my particular job I was working in a highrise with metal studs. The first two times I tried to place a 15 ft piece into the holders the nails slid out of the drywall and everything came down. My solution was to substitute plastic screw in type drywall anchors in place of the roofing nails. After that it worked perfect.

Using the crown molding jug made putting crown molding up by myself easy. I wished I bought this year's ago. A must if hanging crown molding by yourself.

This product is great for someone working alone while putting up crown. As a homeowner who doesn’t do this for a living, I found the product to be easy to use and offers the ability to work without help. The product is also durable as I have unfortunately dropped the brackets a few times from a pretty tall ladder and they are still in perfect shape. Money well spent in my opinion.

So practical and easy to use! We (hubbie and I) have been installing 16ft crown moulding on 10ft ceilings by ourselves, and these made us feel like professionals with none of the Cirque du Soleil acrobatics.

Anything larger and you’ll need a helper

Love it. Make it very easy to install crown molding. No need of help. A must!

Used these once. Work OK. But they are made of plastic and the nut to tighten them comes loose too easy.

Found this very helpful when I was installing long pieces of molding by myself. I did 4 rooms and a hallway with crown molding and used the hanger about 5 times. Could not have done the longer pieces without using this tool or getting help. Very pleased with this purchase.
