Great Product: Arrived 28 Jan Out of the Blue.
I am happy with the product. Its way tinnier that the pics however (the scale is more like a 7 yrs old's hand) this is not a negative however, just a fact. If any criticism at all, is that my deliver arrived 1.5 weeks early. Yes, that's amazing. It would have been great to know about this in advance however. It was only by pure chance I was home (I live in a secure building) to receive my order. The guy dumped my package inside the main door when I buzzed him in (even though I said I will meet you downstairs: My building is only 2 levels). Moreover, the package said: I advised/agreed to "leave unattended" I never made such a request. I live on a very busy road. Leave un-attended may as well mean, free packages for all.

Plan on using a LAPEL MIC? Read this First.
*** IF YOU DON'T PLAN ON USING A LAPEL MIC, THIS PRODUCT IS PERFECT FOR YOU. *** IF YOU PLAN ON USING A LAPEL MIC, READ THIS FIRST. I purchased this product and it just arrived today, and I can say that this is DEFINITELY a solid device that can give you $300 recorder quality (if you know how to use it). Unfortunately, many people have given sub-par reviews due to the low volume when recording with a lapel mic (and MONO audio) compared to recording with a speaker. It is undoubtedly true that the volume of the Lapel Mic is SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER - however apart from there being an EASY FIX for this, there is actually good reason for this. Because the Lapel Mic is designed to be closer to the sound source, the gain (device recording volume) is set much quieter which reduces background noise (which is REALLY beneficial for recording in loud settings) However this creates the noticeable problem of "Volume too low" (not as loud as internal speakers) - but the easy way to fix this is to take 3mins to "Normalize" the audio using a FREE audio program like audacity (which cranks it up to max volume). I managed to get the LAPEL mic 2x louder than the internal speaker using this method. ===== PICTURE EXPLANATION: ===== - If you look at the picture I uploaded, you will see 4 tracks 1.)Int-mic (Stereo) - Internal Recorder Mic (No processing) 2.)Line-Raw (Mono) - Lapel Mic Recording (No processing) 3.)Line-processed(Mono) - Lapel Mic (audio Normalized) 4.)Line-processed(Stereo) - Lapel Mic w/ audio Normalized & Converted to Stereo With Track #1 & #2 - you can see that the internal mic is SIGNIFICANTLY louder than the lapel mic - which has volume so low that it barely moves the meter compared to the Int-Mic. This is what people have complained about, the difference in audio volume when using a Lapel Mic. However with about 3mins worth of work, I was able to create Track #3 (Processed Mono Lapel) & Track #4 (Processed Stereo Lapel) And as you can see, the processed lapel mic recordings are now LOUDER than the Internal mic recordings! And I was able to convert this into an MP3 and send it back to my recorder. SOMEONE IS THINKING: Why should I have to do all of that? - This is a VERY affordable recorder, but it is not fair to expect an affordable recorder to have all the bells and whistles as the $300 recorders. There is always some trade off between affordability and functionality. So if you want to bypass the [easy] legwork required to get a High-Quality (and loud) Lapel Recording - just buy yourself a $300 recorder. But if you don't mind taking 3mins to: 1.) Upload your Lapel Recording to your Computer 2.) Turn up Volume using Free "Audacity" Program 3.) Convert to STEREO using Free Audacity ** OPTIONAL ** 4.) Send back to your Recorder ... This product is DEFINITELY for you. ======= HOW TO DO IT: 1. Record your Audio on your Device 2. Connect Device to Computer 3. Open the File using Audacity (Free) 4. Highlight all the Audio, then go to => Effects => Normalize => (use default settings) ** BAM - your audio is just as loud as the internal speaker ** - Now, note that the recording is going to be in MONO (coming out of one-side), if you want to convert it to stereo, simple go to Track => New Stereo Track (will create a new track). Copy the Loud Mono Audio, and Paste it onto the New Track ** BAM - now you have an extra loud, stereo, Lapel Mic recording that you can now send back to your Recorder (or use in videos, etc) Again these steps are really easy, and I know there are dozens of YouTube tutorials out there showing you how to do this. But if all of this seems like too much trouble for you, this product may not be a good fit for you. But for us normal joe's who want Quality with affordability - this is an awesome product.

Creepy! Even when it's OFF, it magically turns itself ON and records.
My Indestructible (and Maybe Slightly Haunted) 72GB Digital Voice Recorder Let me start by saying, I love this recorder. With 72GB of storage, I basically never have to worry about running out of space. Lectures, meetings, you name it, I've got it all saved in crystal clear audio thanks to the dual microphones. But here's the thing... this recorder is a bit...unusual. Let's call it a super-sensitive voice activation. The product description says it picks up on conversations, which is great. But sometimes, I swear this thing activates on a moth flitting its wings. One time, I was positive I turned it off after a session, only to find an hour-long recording of roosters crowing, dog walking by, and distant phone conversation. Several times I've walked by the device on the counter only to find it back ON, and with several logged recorded sessions. In another instance, I was sitting at my desk and noticed it ON again. I live in a very rural area. There's nothing but crop fields for miles. Yet, when I checked the data, the recorder had captured what sounded like a coyote howling in the dead of night. Now, I'm not saying ghosts are turning my recorder on (although that would be epic), but let's just say this little device has picked up some strange happenings that I otherwise would have missed. I do NOT like finding it ON when I've used the power button to shut it down. It shows "Bye" on the screen. Despite the occasional spooky surprise, this recorder is fantastic. The battery life is amazing, and the recordings are always clear. Plus, who doesn't love a little mystery in their life? So, if you're looking for a reliable digital voice recorder with a bit of an...otherworldly streak, this is the one for you! If you are interested in EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) this unit may just be sensitive enough for that activity. I'm still trying to figure out how, after being turned OFF, it not only turns itself back ON but randomly records whatever sounds are being produced nearby. I'm just glad it's not connected to my wifi or network.

Great Recorder, but Some Flaws
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I am about a year and a half in using this particular recorder. I bought it with the specific intention to record wedding ceremonies directly out of my speaker's mix out. These are my findings. First, the internal microphone really isn't very good. It has a very low threshold of volume before it starts to clip. This wasn't an issue for me, but for people who plan to use it for recording anything over speech volume you may not like the quality of sound. If recording live music don't even bother. The real allure to me was the line in option. I run from the mix out out of my speaker, XLR, into the line in of the recorder. Now, what I have found is it also suffers from clipping in this regard if you boost over 0db. This has caused a number of recordings to be heavily clipped despite the live audio being perfect. Another issue I found is the power button can bypass the lock, meaning you can turn the device on and off with the lock on. If we could fix these this would be the perfect recorder, easily competing with models that are $300 or more due to size and price. The clipping issue could be as simple as a firmware update to add gain control, assuming the hardware allows it. One thing I did also notice is that if you are recording into this from a stereo signal you are going to have some phase cancellation, which may make your recording sound very quiet or even remove frequencies. The solution to this is simple: import into any DAW and pan either left or right to convert the track to mono. Not a fault, but a standard concept in audio - mono vs stereo - to be aware of. I really like this recorder. The battery lasts a considerably long time, being able to use a standard microSD card means that moving files from the device to other systems is straightforward regardless of platform, and the metal body is actually pretty rugged. For the majority of buyers this is going to be a total win, but the combination of deficiencies, namely the easily clipping from the internal mic, deducts one star.
