It might slice raw meat, but it definitely would not be ideal for that. It does work great for slicing biltong as it was intended to. **Q: Can you slice biltong very very thin?** A: Yes you can slice the biltong very very thin. But it takes a fair amount of concentration to get it right each time. I would say 1 to 2mm thick would be "in the zone". It obviosly is a manual chopping motion and is not as accurate as a preset slicer (that would be used with cold cuts) would be in cutting slivers. It works very well for us. Very happy with the purchase. Be careful the blade is exceptionally sharp, lack of concentration for a second and you can do yourself some serious damage. **Q: would this cut through Jerky?** A: Yes that is what the cutter is designed for. The design came from South Africa and the word biltong is their word for jerky. **Q: Can this be used to slice cheese?
