Another poster indicated they were successful in getting it to work in an x4 PCIe slot. Also, if your board is an Asus Workstarion board (or other Asus boards I presume) there is what's called Bifurcation which gives you even more options for RAID setup. (Bifurcation can make one x16 slot and break slot down into 2 x8, or 4 x4 lanes from what I have read) hope this helps : ) **Q: Do I have to use raid for this card?** A: This is designed as a RAID card, and it will be difficult or impossible to use as non-RAID, though that may depend on what is possible in your motherboard BIOS settings for the PCIE slot -- if it allows for 4-way bifurcation without RAID. I got 4x Samsung 980 PRO 2TB in x4 mode in mine. The AMD TR CPU should have more than enough lanes available for you. Make sure you allocate the lanes properly in BIOS, if available.
