## Description

Product description

Review: IT COULDN'T BE ANY BETTER ! - Fiebing's Black Suede Dye (4 oz) was purchased during august of 2023 for the price of $9.98 plus tax. the product is now available for the price of $9.89 plus tax (December 16, 2024). The shoes upon which the dye was used were new. However, the coloring seemed to be a bit faded...not as saturated as I would have liked them to be. Although I have never gone through the process of dyeing shoes previously, I really wanted to enjoy these shoes...so I took a chance after watching a few YOUTUBE videos. The process of using the Fiebing's Dye was as straight forward as one would hope, and expect. The only suggestion is to be prepared before beginning as to avoid making a mess of the application, or accidental spillage. The most important aspect of obtaining the best results is to follow the instructions. After having done just that, the results were superlative. The color saturation that I desired was immediatrely appparent upon completion. The most important thing about the process is to make sure you have a suitable suede brush in order to release the nap of the suede after the dye had completely dried. If, for some reason, the saturation of color is not to one's satisfaction, it wouldn't be outside the realm of suggestions to apply another coat of dye. I'm thoroughly satisfied with the results of using this product. Howver, I can only attest to the results of having used the Black dye. I have no idea if similar results would be obtained with the different color dyes that are being offered by Fiebing's. Nonetheless, Fiebing's has an excellent reputation of offering quality products. It would be worth the effort to take a chance on the spectrum of colors offered.
Review: Amazing! Much better than anticipated and saved 2 pairs of shoes! - I ordered 2 pairs of Ecco shoes for my husband and unfortunately, they were much lighter than expected. The first pair, he wore a couple of times but the second pair were brand new. I had meant to send the second pair back, but time slipped away and soon it was too late - sigh. Ecco's are pretty nice and not inexpensive so I hated for them to just sit on the shelf - which is exactly what would happen! And I can't blame my husband because I didn't really like the light color either. These are not smooth leather. I guess they would be considered suede (?) or nubuck maybe? Anyway, I thought that trying to dye them would result in a splotchy mess! Reading online, articles indicated the need to strip the existing finish....and that's where I lost interest! Finally decided to just go for it! What did I have to lose? They weren't going to be used as they were anyway. Checked a couple of products on desertcart and settled on this one. So glad I did! The pictures show the results! FIRST PICTURE: The shoes that had been worn a few times. I didn't have a brush, but I used the edge of a knife to "scrap" the shoe to try to remove any dirt and raise the nap. Seemed like a good idea! I don't have a "before" picture of the new, unworn shoes but they were the same color/style/brand. SECOND PICTURE: This is the after of the new shoes after I dyed them! Looks pretty awesome, huh? I love the color. I used dark brown dye, but they seem to have a bit of a red tone which I really like - kind of like cordovan. They look even better in person! THIRD PICTURE: This is the pair that had been worn (I remember to get before/after pics!). Again, super pleased with the results! They also look even better in person than the picture.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: can I use this item to dye a shearling coat (outside of it) from tan to black?**
A: Few things to consider:
If you don't know if the material is treated in any way (it might absorb in some places and not in others, or it might not absorb at all), I would suggest you try it in a small spot somewhere that's not obvious. Also, keep in mind that since it's a coat, I asume it doesn't have lining, the color might be absorbed on the other side too and when you wear it it might bleed on your clothes if the coat gets wet or you sweat. Also, depending on how big your coat is, you will need a lot of bottles for 1 coat, for more coats you will need even more. I would suggest you look into professionally dying this item.

**Q: Does this dye need to be sealed? Using black and don't want it to rub off onto anything.**
A: The key with shoe dye is to give it time to dry. I've had to wait over a week for dye to truly dry. Once it dries, there's no coming off - it's permanent.

**Q: I'm dying hip suede coat w/ hood. It's been cleaned & faded alot a.w.a. still stains. How many bottles of med brown should i need?**
A: I'm not sure if this will help you any but I used an ounce short of two bottles to dye a pair of suede shoes... I'm guessing it's gonna take quite a bit to do your coat.

**Q: I have a light purple UGG boots and want to dye it black. Will this work? Will it come out dark black and will it turn the suede stiff? I tried to have it dyed w/ our local shoe repair man and he said UGG boots can be dyed but will not come out right. Thank you!**
A: I used black dye on a rust color pair of pumps. The dye absorbed into the suede like a sponge and therefore needed 3-4 coats. The suede did not become stiff, but I used shoe stretchers to keep the suede from shrinking since the shoes had a pointed toe. The shoes look like they were always black (you cannot tell that they were dyed.) And, the suede is supple. This is my experience. I do not know anything about dying UGGS. I hope this helps.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great color!
*by S***L on January 3, 2026*

Easy to use! I got bored of an old pair of booties because the color was just a bit too pale for me and I was looking for a darker brown, which was more on trend. Rather than buying a new pair of booties, I decided to try this suede dye. The applicator is like a big cotton ball on a stick but works really well to change the color, except where the suede meets the sole of the shoe. A finer make up brush or something would’ve probably worked better. All in all I’m very satisfied with the color and the fact that I don’t have to buy a new pair of shoes.
