The pieces are more diminutive in size than your typical plastic set in both circumference and height, but they are also more detailed. I've included a picture that compares the king of a cheap plastic set I already owned to the king of this metal set with my hand in the background as a frame of reference. It's important to note that the pieces weigh at least as much or more than their plastic counterparts. There's a lot of detail to be felt as well as seen with this chess set, and I really appreciate this as I am a very tactile person. The sonorous sound that accompanies every take with this set is also quite nice, and the felt bottoms make a pleasant whisper as they are pushed forward on my plastic board. Finally, I found the little storage piece that holds the pieces to be more trouble than it's worth, because the pieces fit rather snugly inside, and I will be taking them out and using it frequently, but it certainly seems to have protected the pieces well on their journey to my house, so if you won't be using the pieces every day, it might be a rather nice accessory. I'm very pleased with the craftsmanship of the pieces, and the only complaint I can see that might be leveraged is one about the size, but I simply don't find this to be a problem; the pieces are all clearly demarcated by a number of unique details and with most average sized chess boards you will have extra room in between the pieces. All in all, I'm totally pleased with the quality of the product!

Very high quality with a nice weight to the pieces.

The detail and coloring is beautiful. My favorite part is how heavy they are and they do of course have pads on the bottom of them.

Very cool pieces they were smaller than I was expecting but still very happy with them.
