Wholesomes Whitefish Meal & Rice Dry Dog Food 40 lb

We've used this dog food for a few yrs. It keeps our dog who is allergic to most grains and red meats fed a healthy, balanced diet. This food is formulated on fish and no grains. Her coat is shiny, bright eyes and happy belly :) If you are new to this food, transition slowly from your old food to this by mixing a little in day by day till you're dog is 100% on this. There will be gas the first couple weeks. It will smell awful. That's ok. It's their body adjusting to the fish oils and better quality food. The fish farts and burps will go away within a week or so if you transition slowly. If you just change to this food due to an allergic dog or other reasons, expect soft stools that smell fishy, fishy farts and burps for about 10 days. It will go away, promise. Just hang in there with it. The food itself is small kibble suitable for all size dogs. You can smell the fish and fish oils in it. That's good and signifies quality ingredients. There are no preservatives in this food so it must be kept cool, dry and properly closed. We prefer a food bin. Our vet also approves of this food and said it is great nutritionally and quality. Healthy food for dogs. I mix 1/2 cup with a small can of Beneful wet food. She loves it.

This is a pretty good quality food. My dogs keep good weight on it and coats look good. We have tried several of the other wholesomes and this is the one the poodles enjoy the best so that's worth it to me. The bags are great and water tight so no muss no fuss when we keep a stock of 20 bags around. Definitely worth the money.

My dogs (3, large) really like this food. They have had zero gastric problems with it (not a smelly fart to be had in the bunch), coats are very shiny. Even our American bulldog mix who is prone to skin issues has not had flare ups while eating this. Is it the best food on the market? No. However, it is an excellent value for the price. I've seen no difference in our dogs health between this and pricier mid-range foods like ToTW or Canidae and have been feeding Sportmix Wholesomes varieties exclusively for close to a year. I almost never review products, but feel confident recommending this food to others.

**EDIT** Price is now only $2.00 higher. Well done!!! I'm ordering now! Price jumped up by $10 a bag???! I did a lot of research to find my best value of price versus quality and you had me sold at $36 while still feeling very confident in quality. Told a LOT of clients about your food. My dogs liked it and have done well on it. But at your new price point? There are better quality foods at this new price per pound. Lost a customer and advocate here.

Needed to cancel order, due to too much fruit in the ingredients that's CAUSED PIMPLES on my senior Australian Shepherd AND A WART on my 4-yr-old Malamute Husky. (I am cancelling this for the FISH flavor, cause changing the flavor won't resolve their health problem which the food decreased both my dogs immune system in a month. Even if research states, "it's normal" for dogs to have PIMPLES and WARTS. THESE EVENTUALLY TURN INTO CANCER if not caught on time.) We had originally gotten this food due to higher quality foods that are $10 more expensive. My senior dog will eat anything, so it was hard to tell what was going on at first. My Husky will eat anything that's new, as huskies are picky eaters BUT AFTER A FEW WEEKS MY HUSKY was NO LONGER WANTING THE FOOD, EVEN WHEN I had IMPLEMENTED OTHER FOODS. UPDATE: Dec. 31, 2020: Depending on the research you collect and where it's coming from, (basically, go for the more scholarly articles), higher protein is better for your dog of your want to prevent health issues. There's a certain amount they need which boosts their immunity, and the lower percentage protein dog food causes health problems in the long run. Too much fruit is also not good, as stated above.

Ordering here was so much easier! This is the only food that doesn’t cause my super sensitive, allergy prone staffordshire terrier to break out in weird spots or at times even scratch himself until he’s bleeding. I’ve tried different foods recommended by his vet, making my own and after hours and hours (and I mean HOURS) of research I found that this brand/flavor was similar to some very expensive foods that were recommended for allergies. Other $brands$ also didn’t have anywhere near the same size bag and with a 150lb dog and a 90lb, it’s a big time saver to get bigger bags. He’s a very picky eater and loves this food. I was worried that his little (but bigger) brother wouldn’t approve of it and I’d have to buy separate foods, but he loves it too! I’d almost dare say that it helps with their gas too!
