Most useful book on the Russian Language I've bought.
This is by far the most useful book on the Russian language i have bought. And I've bought basically every book, and every app for self learning Russian. I want more books from this author.

Clarifies Introductory Grammar
Modern Russian Grammar in Use functions much as a standalone textbook despite being more a workbook. It has clarified many of the grammar topics from introductory textbooks by providing better and more succinct explanations. I wish the author would publish a first or second year Russian textbook. I would definitely buy it.The workbook is generally organized by parts of speech, types of verbs and verb tenses, and the six cases though this is from my memory and not the book's actual table of contents. The exercises are neither too few not too many. Plus they are designed to emphasize points of grammar that are difficult. You will discover many questions requiring you to respond with the correct ending for an irregular variety of a noun for instance. There's no missing the irregular form yet getting most of the answers right because of easier questions. Also, remembering what has been learned in previous lessons may be required in later lessons so you have to stay on your toes. It's not all hard work though, there is plenty of humor included in the lessons and exercises both.Modern Russian Grammar in Use is advertised as a workbook that will take the learner to the advanced level. From the several lessons I've completed, I'd have to agree. It is an odd experience that since there are no labels distinguish beginner vs intermediate vs advanced, you start working at the next level without even realizing it. Since it isn't mapped onto an accompanying textbook, you should probably be a bit beyond beginner before using it. It is invaluable as a reference as well; I have three or four first-year texts that aren't nearly as clear in instruction. I highly recommend this to anyone who's moving beyond basic beginner and getting ready for a second year text.

A grammar book
I am a Chinese in Hong Kong. Russian is the 5th language I am learning. My school does not provide adequate exercises and therefore I purchased this book for my own revision.Learning a language requires repetitive writing. This book provides examples and writing practices in a systemic and progressive manner. However, please be noted that this is a grammar book. If you haven't been equipped with certain amount of vocabularies, you will find it difficult to follow the examples. I have been learning Russian for 1 year and I think I bought this book at a right time. On one hand, I know most of the words (70%) in the book so that I can do revision smooth. On the other hand, the remaining 30% new words expand my vocabulary bank. I enjoy this book very much and hope you find my comment useful.Attached photos are the first page of contents and, the very first chapter, and the first chapter talking about verb conjugation in present tense.

Excellent Russian Grammar Book
This is a book I have been looking for a long time: a complete Russian self-study reference and practice book with a user-friendly layout and really good exercises. The book is great both for beginners and advanced students.I call myself a beginner. I started with the introductory course which includes basic structures of the Russian language needed in everyday situations. The material is well organized: Each chapter can be read and understood separately, however, throughout the book you will find cross-references to other sections and chapters. The grammar rules are explained clearly and comprehensively, supported by the exercises based on actual language use.I was really surprised and proud that I was able to apply the learnings in the first „real life“ section - only after the first 12 pages - and to manage such everyday situations as introducing myself, talking about family, job and friends, etc.All Russian examples are accompanied by a translation into English. All exercises have an answer key. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone starting or continuing to learn Russian.

A Must Have for learning Russian!!
I am SO HAPPY to have received this Russian Grammar Book as a gift from my polylingual son. It is beautifully written, simple enough for. Beginners to use, yet Advanced Grammar points are detailed too! The systematic approach is great for us older folks who are used to mixing grammar with conversational language study.I love the layout of the book, too. Principles to learn are on the left hand page, and the practice of principles learned are to the right. Answers are at the end of the book. No guessing! Worth every penny in MY book! Thank you Elena Minakova-Boblest for a wonderfully thought out book!

Love it!
My daughter likes this book for our Russian language lessons. My only complaint is the lower case letter И when written with an emphasis on it looks like the letter Й. For someone with less than perfect vision it will be easy to mistake the two.

Basic with Exercises
I had hoped that this would be purely grammar. It mixes in exercises to do which is what I avoid. Also, it's basic grammar, nothing very deep so advanced students probably won't like this.

Work of Extreme dedication !
This book will take two years to work through , i am sure .Recommend having a basic Russian knowledge and a good dictionary .There are 1,000's of Questions to answer. The book is laid out with condensed explanations on the left. On the right page Modern Russian keeps the learner engaged with endless contextual questions. At first glance the exercises look daunting .But it is not hard and will keep you working away. Would give it 5 stars if it had an Audio track .
