Worthless Product
I purchased this item in May and thought everything would be okay. As of Sunday 7/24 at 5:30 AM all hell broke loose when my wife awoke to Bed bugs biting her. She flipped over the mattress which had a Mattress Encasement and then flipped over the Box Springs which both had SureGuard covers placed on them by a professional exterminator in the later part of May. We could see where the Bed Bugs were going in and out of the Box Spring covers. Only 60 Days and they were able to penetrate the covers. Needless to say we had to take the Box springs out of the house. What kind of testing is being performed on these cases if any? I am unable to return the product because of the infestation and associated health risks of shipping such material through the US Mail. I definitely feel I am entitled to a full refund.

The bedbugs have been sealed inside... For those that are still battling them read my review.
At first I thought that the bed bugs were finally dead. They were dormant through the winter and returned after three months. Since they are probably the apex predators of urban life poisoning them didn't help. The only thing that finally they couldn't adapt to was diatomaceous earth. This is strictly mechanical and non-toxic. After filling the encasement with diatomaceous earth they were trapped inside. A bedbug can live for about 18 months without feeding. It will take out any insect with just one particle. Anything from a mouse on up is safe.I don't intend to open them up for at minimum 4 years. The rest of the house was powdered again just to be safe. All clothing has been washed and dried. The heavy blankets that don't fit in the wash were run on high for 30 minutes in the dryer.

BUY THIS - IF YOU WANT BEDBUGS!
I never write reviews. I would give this product negative five stars if I could. We called an exterminator to treat our home as soon as we saw a single bed bug. He said we were lucky. We caught it early and did not have a full-blown infestation. We treated our home and bought these covers for our bed on his recommendation. We thought we had dealt with the problem. Fast forward a few months later. I see a bug on the bed. We take apart everything and see that, lo and behold, bugs ARE COMING OUT OF THE CLOSURE!We had to have the exterminator come back for a second treatment. This whole experience has been a nightmare, a nightmare that could have been over for us after our first treatment if these things did what they claim to do- KEEP BED BUGS INSIDE CONTAMINATED BOXSPRINGS. They don't!Buy at your own peril. You've been warned.

It protects, but do your bed bug homework first.
I'm happy with this purchase. The only thing I have to complain are the people in reviews. Just because you buy an encasement doesn't solve your bed bug problem.YOU, have to make sure you vacuum, spray (contact killer) and dust (diatomaceous earth) EVERY CORNER, CRACK, SPACE of your bed, box spring, and home in order to get rid of your bed bug problem. Just because you buy an encasement doesn't mean your bed bug problem just goes away. That's like shooting yourself in the foot and putting a bandaid to cover the wound. No, it doesn't work like that. This encasement helps from future bed bugs from using your bed/box spring as their new home, but you also have to make sure you put in the time to prevent these little suckers from ever coming back.Everything else was fine. Just make sure you pull the zipper gently because at times it would get stuck. But so far so good.

Not Bed Bug Proof
Before putting these on I took complete precautions and rewashed all sheets with hot water and sprayed bed bug killing spray. I still ended up getting bed bugs within months. DO NOT BUY, if you are looking to get rid of bed bugs.

Was skeptical at first… BUT
I had been looking for a solution to my cat destroying the underside of my box spring for a long time and finally came across someone who had a similar problem and use this product to cover the box spring. I’ve had it on my box spring for two weeks now and I’m happy to say neither of my cats have tried scratching it. I’m 100% happy with this encasing.

Zipper closure isn't totally secure just beacuse of velcro.
Ok... here we go! I've had the same boxspring encasement for 3yrs. Between rough handeling, a cat that thought my boxspring was her personal scratcher which I taped thoroughly and just wear and tear, I got bed bugs. For no reason. Outta no where. .I ordered this encasement because it had special zipper closers and came pretty much higher outta the running so far as reviews. Here's my drawbacks. The "special" velcro closure over the zipper is basically useless. If they can burrow through a zipper, this extra flap doesn't encase the whole zipper AND the bugs can burrow through loop and hook, ie, velcro. I have been treated 4x , everything pulled out and treated. If you don't do at least that, this thing is useless.Be wise, be gentle and know that it is a long, painful process.I'd give it a 5 star's if it wasn't for the zipper issue.

DAMAGED MY WASHING MACHINE
This product is supposed to be machine washable; however, when I washed mine, it nearly destroyed my washing machine. I followed the washing instructions exactly - cool water, gentle cycle. But when the washer was spinning, the cover became entangled and absorbed so much water it caused my washer to get off balance so badly that the washing machine literally came apart. The tension rod holding the tub came loose, and several screws fell out so that the top part of the washing machine came loose from the bottom part. It was a mess, and it cost me $126 to have itrepaired. The repairman told me that a water-proof cover should never be washed in the newer machines that spinso fast. I feel like the manufacturer should have cautioned against this on the packaging. I would never buy anotherSafeguard water-proof box spring encasement. I honestly would give it a zero star rating if I could.
