Complicated but worth it.-Updated- still worth it!
Don't kid yourself, this is a VERY complicated diet. I spent about 2 weeks preparing, reading, shopping and easing off caffeine, dairy and sugar. If you do that, you stand a better chance of not floundering around or having withdrawals. I lost some weight preparing, but not nearly as fast as in the actual plan. I have been heavy my entire life, with a very slow metabolism. Low body heat, low blood pressure, low heart rate. Fat never wants to check out, once checked in. This is a fascinating book, and the diet is working very well. I have lots more than 40 pounds to lose, so will have to repeat it a few times. Don't give up! I'm in my 60's, and something is finally working. This book was recommended to me by someone who knows a lot about proper eating and nutrition, and I'm very glad they did.UPDATED 1/23I am now early on in my second 4-week cycle. I went off for a little more than a month over the holidays, and put on about 2 pounds. I lost that the 1st 2 days of the diet, and then 3 more. I'm still enthused, and my eating habits have changed for good. I wish Haylie would talk more about baking, so I will. I bake a lot (and eat a lot of baked goods, which is why I got so big). Now, I bake with only sprouted flour and either coconut sugar or xylitol, or both. I use coconut oil in place of most of the butter. But also, I dried a lot of vegetables this year, and was wondering what to do with them. You can put them in a blender (kale, tomatoes, peppers, whatever), add some sprouted flour, and the flour will allow you to blend them into a powder. You can then add this to the sprouted flour you are baking with. Then, I blend other vegetables like garlic, onions, carrots, anything I have too much of, into the required liquid until liquified. The results have been GREAT. I used some hot dried peppers in the last bread, and it is so spicy and flavorful. Normally, bread just kind of holds a sandwich together, but this homemade bread is healthy and awesome tasting at the same time. I bought a book called Sprouted Baking and started making changes. Bread machines make it so easy. Dump in the ingredients and 3.5 hours later - terrific bread. I also made the crackers (same thing with the powdered vegetables), even scones with carob chips. YUM. I bought lots of expensive nut butters to spread on the bread, but learned you can make them so easily yourself, and they taste great. I make the jerky from the recipe in the book, and it is so cheap and tasty, compared to the nitrite free stuff I found to buy. WAY better.I still suffer and complain a little in Phase 2, but it's only 2 days, you almost always lose the most after that phase, and avocados and nuts and bread are waiting for you when you're done.Weight and health wise, this is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Inflammation is way down, and I'm less stiff. Much less joint pain, bordering on none many days. Yoga helps too.

Stunned @ how easy this is - how healthy I feel after 2 weeks. This is healthy weight loss.
I was in top shape when I got pregnant at 40 years old. In the past 3 years I've been unable to lose 30 pounds - sadly - I gained weight after losing most of my baby weight. My metabolism died essentially - I worked from home and sat most of the day. I ate every left over carb snack my son left on his plate and at my largest meal at 9pm. I couldn't find the time to include exercise into our busy lives since my husband has a very challenging work schedule. It was a nightmare - each month I saw the scale go up, my energy go down, sleep issues, etc. I saw the author on Dr Oz and thought this made sense and i would try it for 28 days - what did I have to lose. The first week - I lost 3 pounds - and I followed the plan to the T except I wasn't used to eating as much food as I needed to. The second week I lost an additional 5 pounds but what I noticed the most was lost of inches. I'm in the middle of my third week and I'm down 2 pounds - and I will admit I cheated because I've had a very stressful week. What is stunning to me is how TERRIFIC I feel. Not only did I lose inches around my body - I went from size 14 to 12 already. I am having the hardest time eating enough food to be honest. Now unless you really have terrible eating habits - meaning you eat everything from a package that is processed and not considered REAL food - this isn't so challenging. I'm a foody - I LOVE exotic cheese and coffee has sustained me for the past 3 years. Oddly - I don't miss them - though as I get closer to my goal weight I know I can go back to eating them responsibly. So - I started Phase 1 on a Monday because I thought it would be more enjoyable to eat my good fats on the Friday/Sat/Sun. The hardest part is Phase 2 for me because I hate protein. The best part of this is you have a family is that your family can eat like you do - they can add in the extra's that we've eliminated, but it's very easy to make only 1 meal for all.So - to give you an idea how I'm doing this:Monday/Tuesday -PHASE 1: I cook steel oats that I've let soak overnight so they cook more quickly in the am. I add either baked apples I make in my toaster oven or strawberry's & chopped pineapple. Who knew this would be the most delicious combo? I add butter, milk and some brown sugar into my sons bowls. Family breakfast served. Oh - I also have an herbal tea. Who cares - I still drink the amount of water I'm supposed to. Can I add my 44 year old skin is looking fabulous!Snack - I have strawberry's and tangerines with my son and our play- dates at the park. Fun for all.Lunch - I love cook either quinoa and veggies (not my fav), made the turkey, white bean & kale soup (was quite good) or brown rice stir fry with chicken, and an piece of fruit.Snack - a pear or an appleDinner - I ALWAYS have a pasta - my favorite is the brown rice pasta from Trader Joes. I make my own sauce with a can of San Marzano tomatoes, garlic, basil, salt & pepper - delicious and simple. Now - do let me say I'm an Olive Oil snob - and I've been living comfortably without it. Go figure. And then I add perhaps some grilled chicken on the side of my pasta. I've been eating up to 3 cups of pasta by the way and am losing a good amount of weight. She says you have to eat more if you need to lose more than 20 pounds. YEAH for that.LOVE PHASE 1 - Phase 2 - not so much. I hate protein and consider myself and carbovoire.Breakfast - My husband makes us poaches eggs, chicken sausage and usually a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast. (I usually go for the whole grain toast and lost of butter,) But, now I eat the egg whites and give the poached yolk to our dog, have turkey bacon and slices of celery with lime juice and salt. I have to say this is surprisingly good - lime juice and celery. Did I say I hate Phase 2? Not because I'm never full - because I love carbs. But, I'm VERY satisfied.Snack - I eat turkey jerky and 5oz while at the park with the kiddies. I've turned every mom friend on to the stuff at Trader Joes. Even my 3 year old devours it.Lunch - I've been making Korean BBQ Beef - and I haven't eaten beef in over 15 years. LITTLE tiny slivers with a BRAGGS, garlic, ginger, onion and YES - a little brown sugar that isn't on the list but it helps carmelize the beef on the grill. I put this over a salad with lime juice and it's simply delicious and satisfying. I also use chicken and turkey, but I need the FLAVOR to swallow protein. I'm hoping I don't become a meat eating mad woman because of this Phase 2. oiy!Snack - Tuna with cut up veggies, salt & pepper with slices of Red Pepper. Super yummy.Dinner - I love her Pork Loin & Peppercini recipe - with I could have it with rice - but I eat it with a salad.SO HAPPY WHEN PHASE 2 is over!TGIF & Bring on the weekend with Phase 3.Breakfast -Dang am I a happy woman when Friday comes. THREE poached eggs with the yolk - yeah! Blackberrys - over a cup, a piece of organic spouted wheat bread. She doesn't say you CANNOT have wheat - but if you need it and I DO - use only sprouted. It's a delicious part of my usual diet so YEAH. I spread the bread with half an avocado and one week I did have a cup of coffee with the cream and sugar. But - imagine this. After 2 sips - I just didn't want the coffee. My husband fell on the floor.Snack - My son & I bring hummus and veggie sticks to our play dates. Fun and yummy stuff for all. He does eat his pita chips - and I shockingly can live without them now.Lunch: This is my absolute favorite new meal - so simple & so yummy. I have several leaves of lettuce - Romaine or Butter varieties. Spread and entire avocado on all of them with salt & pepper and then add quite allot of organic turkey slices. Roll them up and dig in. They are so yummy - my husband and toddler are begging for them. Really good. I have to admit - a vinegar & salt chip would be the cherry on top, but I have my goals and priorities.Snack - I am a little confused about his part of the diet outline. It says NO FRUIT - so I don't have any. Not sure exactly what to have so I tend to have some turkey jerky or hummus and veg, or another new fav avocado on a toasted sprouted wheat tortilla by Ezekiel - found in almost any stores, but Trader Joes & Whole Foods. By toasting the tortilla it gets crunchy and breaks into chips without any oil, etc. I feel like I'm having chips and quac. Well - I am, but without the CORN. And, can I also say every person who know me - KNOWS- I LOVE LOVE LOVE CHIPS & SALSA. Delicioso.Dinner - Since I was always confused about my options for Dinners in Phase 3 I have just simply always toasted one of my sprouted wheat tortillas and smothered it with avocado and hot sauce. Maybe even 3 of them if I feel hungry - well, ok - my husband always seems to eat half of mine. So maybe 1 1/2 if what I eat in the end. I also had a burrito bowl from chipolte without the cheese. LIke I said, I'm not clear on this meal in Phase 3. I wing it....The other cruel truth is that I haven't done any of the exercise pieces - why? Because I haven't been able to motivate myself since I had my son and I'm fabulous at making excuses. But, having lost inches these past 2 weeks I'm feeling inspired. My bust lost 1.5 inches, my waist 2 inches, my arms, thighs and face are all tighter.I hate a diet is all I can and I really didn't know how I was going to feel better and get control of my life after being an immaculate clean eater and yogi for 15 years before having my son. This book has changed my life. It stays on my kitchen counter because I often flip to what foods are allowed in each Phase to remind myself of more things I can eat. What i'm eating listed above is seriously changing my body - inside & out. I love it and I love to hear others say they notice it.I'm going to stick to this until I get to my desire weight - but to be honest, I'm not really missing much. It's ALLOT of food, sometimes I feel like I can't eat what is required. The food is simple, real food. Good food. My head is less foggy and I'm not sure really why - so I may add back coffee & dairy (AKA CHEESE & 1/2 & 1/2) slowly to see what is triggering my groggy feelings before. In the end - based on the scale today 3rd week and day 4 with 3 days to go I suspect I will lose a total of 12 -15 pounds on this plan.THANK YOU HAYLIE. You've helped me get back to myself. The Fast Metabolism Diet: Eat More Food and Lose More WeightSorry for the typos - felt it was important to share and nap time is over. My son wants some AVOCADO. :)

Effective But TIme Consuming
The program is well explained and organized. Haylie is intelligent, but her book is easy to read. She does not talk down to her reader, which annoys me with other "diet authorities". I really enjoyed the book. I've been working at loosing weight over the last year. I abandoned the healthy way I had been loosing weight and started her program because I'd stabilized but had more weight to loose. I just finished my 19th day and I've lost 10 pounds. I feel that I have followed her program to the letter. It takes time to organize, shop and prepare for each week. I have never put so much thought and effort into eating before. My refrigerator looks ridiculous with containers of food that we are allowed to eat just 2-3 days at a time. I'm not into crock pot cooking as she is and maybe that would have made a difference. The first week it took me over 2 hours just to plan out the week's menu. There are a lot of little factors to consider and it's best to plan ahead and be organized. Once on it though, I felt good, lost weight at a good pace, though I will fall short of the "up to 20 pounds in 28 days". I wish I was going to be closer to the 20 pound mark. Two days out of the week are a little rough with limited food choices, but it's only 2 days out of 7 and that's not a bad deal either. The theory of this book makes so much sense to me. The program can be used for more than 28 days, though it is really not designed to. I don't think it would be a whole lot of fun to stay on this program month after month. This is a good program to begin like a New Year's resolution diet. Hunker down for 28 days and get your body functioning better. That's a pretty good plan to me. I've talked about the program with quite a few people. I do recommend it, but I do not feel that it is for everyone because of the planning and organization necessary. My husband would not have been able to handle everything involved with this program if he had to fend for himself. He's not the cook of the house though, I am. We do a lot of checking the list of appropriate phase foods throughout the week. I still haven't memorized the entire program. This is not an easy plan to be on if you are the only one doing it in your household. This is a great buddy system program. It is also critical to plan ahead. Since you're eating every 3-4 hours, you have to plan ahead and can't get stuck someplace without food or snacks.I feel like a bag lady, as I'm toting food with me all the time. I have changed a lot of my feelings about food, and that's a good thing. My old thoughts had me carrying too much weight. I've enjoyed the program and have learned from it. I feel that I have made lifelong changes thanks to her and for that I'm both thankful, thinner and healthier.

AWESOME way to eat and lose!
I LOVE This book and this way of eating!! Let me first tell you a little about me so you can have some sort of idea where I am coming from here.I am 47 years old and despite all my hard work over the years of doing everything I thought to be right in order to lose weight, nothing AND I MEAN NOTHING worked for me like this program does. I am on the verge of menopause and for 9 months now have been on bio identical hormone therapy( mostly in the hopes that IT would help me shed some weight) it has been miraculous for me but not so much in the weight loss dept. I am also insulin resistant and have higher than normal cholesterol and a waist larger than 40" and have stressed adrenals. Ever heard of Metabolic Syndome? How can this be? I live so healthy?I have been doing a fitness boot camp every morning at 5 am for the past 6 years, sometimes I would do an hour of Zumba on the same days I did boot camp. If you have never done boot camp, let me assure you it is NOT easy! Especially in Houston heat!! I have always exercised and eaten fairly clean. I am no stranger to nutrition or to eating healthy. I did however have a very bad sugar and caffeine addiction ( I can see that now)I have tried every diet known to man over the last 10 years! You name it, and I have done it! I have spent thousands of dollars on pills, shakes, packaged foods, potions, patches, shots, saunas, fitness videos, boot camp, exercise classes, gym memberships... you get the idea!I have counted calories, fat grams, carbs, macro nutrients, to the "T", all the while racking my brain trying to find the correct calorie level to lose weight. No matter what level I ate at I still never lost a pound. I have spent so much time trying to figure out HOW to lose weight it was really stressing me out! I was on the verge of calling to see about gastric bypass. I am not sure if I would qualify based on my weight but I was willing to fork over all the money to do it because despite my very hard work, nothing was happening. DO you know how frustrating that is ? I see people give up soda and drop 30 lbs just like that. I haven't had a soda in nearly 20 years! ArghhhhhSO, here is my point, I have been on this diet now two solid weeks and today is day two of week 3. I am down 8 pounds! I am eating more than I ever have and I have worked out maybe 5 times over the last two weeks. The first week was a little confusing trying to get down what I can and cant have on each of the phases but now I don't even need to reference the book anymore. It has become second nature :) I had a REALLY hard time convincing myself that I could give up my coffee. The first few days were tough, but I found some decent substitutes for it and I am living with it. I have not had one sweet treat now for over two weeks, also hard the first few days. No alcohol either, which is really not an issue for me except for on the weekends with friends. This way of eating is nothing short of a miracle in my eyes, like I said before I have been a fairly clean eater for a while now so I had most of the food required to get started, I was already buying all organic so no biggie there either. I make a point to spend every Sunday preparing my meals for the week so they are ready to go. This makes the week bullet proof! "Fail to prepare and prepare to fail" that's something my trainer taught me a long time ago, and it's true! If all the food is ready you have no excuses to not follow the program. No, this is not easy, but nothing worth while ever is! It does take some motivation, prepping and preparing and shopping and cooking. But once you get past week one it becomes easier.I cannot tell you how GREAT I feel. My clothes are looser and comfortable, my mood is happy and my days are brighter. My head is clear and the fog has lifted, my energy is up and my joints don't ache anymore. I feel very relaxed and calm and I am smiling more. When I read Haylies book I felt as though she was speaking directly to me! Everything she said was ME, Everything! I am so happy I read the entire book. There is a lot of information within the chapters that are useful and things she said that really hit home for me.I cannot recommend this book and this way of eating enough ( to me it is not a diet) I will never give this up. If you are truly ready to lose weight and repair your metabolism and your health just mentally prepare yourself for this and you can do it.28 days will go by whether you do this or not!!! Wouldn't it be nice to be thinner in 28 days instead of feeling like you have just let another month go by feeling defeated?I will be giving you all an update when I complete the whole 28 days.

It works, but its very low calorie and the program in the book is confusing
The concept works. My wife and I started it last Monday and in one week we each lost 7 pounds. But the directions are very confusing, the layout of the book is very confusing, and the text portions contradict what's in the charts and recipes. The recipes are another area to watch out for. My wife, thankfully, is willing to put in the hours of shopping and preparing that go with preparing the recipes. The problem with the way the book is designed is that information relevant to a specific menu plan is pages apart and in different places in the book. There are phases to follow so there's one chart for recommended meals for each meal in that phase. Then you have to go to some place else many pages away to get the list of allowed foods for that phase and meal. We wound up copying the relevant pages and connecting them together so that we could just glance at the phase, then the meal, then the allowed foods. She could have done the same in the book.In one section it says to eat 1/4 cup. In another it says to eat 1/2 cup, and in another it says to eat all you want. That kind of confusion is throughout the whole program. I don't know if her personal clients get a different program than what's in the book, but I would have to assume so. No one would put up with this much disorganization if they were paying someone on a weekly basis or per visit. We didn't pay much for the book, so we're willing to make it work. I understand from reviews on the App Store that the iPhone app is also very difficult to work with. The book also refers to additional ideas and ways to fulfill your meal needs using outside sources, but when you go to the website its not there. I emailed them a week ago from the link on the website asking where to find the referenced resource, but I've yet to get a response.Bottom line, its very low calorie despite what other "reviewers" have said, and if you have a lot of time, and you're willing to do a lot of shopping and work, it looks like it will work to lose weight. It was a pain in the butt to follow the disjointed flow of the book and the diet, but we plan on giving it a try for the full 28 days. If you work fulltime and have no one to do the planning, shopping and preparation, forget it. You won't be able to do it.

I made it! And it worked!
Today is day 28 and I'm happy to report I'm down 19 pounds!First - a little background so that you'll have a bit of a profile. I'm a 50 year old male, 6' 2" tall and weighed 224 at the start of this program. I'm pretty healthy (other than being 20+ pounds overweight), with great blood pressure and only slightly elevated triglycerides. I'm relatively active, hitting the gym around 3 times a week (when not traveling for work, which is often). My weight problem is concentrated in the spare tire area. I love all of the least healthy foods: pizza, chips & salsa, burgers, beer, ice cream, etc., so any diet is a challenge for me, as I typically feel really deprived. My college-age daughter still lives at home and is a very healthy eater, so we always have healthy food in the house, which was helpful for this program.About 20 years ago, my typical weight range was 205 - 210. That range crept up to 210 - 215, and then 215 - 220. Last fall, when doubling up on on my exercise routine, I had gotten it back down into the 210 - 215 range. Then the holidays came and I was back up around 220 at the start of 2013. No matter how hard I worked out, I could not get the weight off and the harder I worked, the more I ate. I realized I was at a point in my life where I had to do something about food intake vs. just burning calories.I've been through Atkins (hated it) and Nutrisystem (it worked, but not sustained). I heard about Fast Metabolism from a client and decided to check it out.It was by far the easiest "diet" to get through. While I purchased the book, I really used the $5 app on my iPhone to monitor what I could eat at each meal and snack. Only the 1st day was a little rough, as I really wasn't prepared and even though we had healthy food in the house, much of it wasn't appropriate for Phase 1. Per the author's advice, I went cold turkey with caffeine, which lasted a whopping 2 days. I was back on my 3+ cup per day coffee habit on day 3 and it didn't seem to affect the outcome. Who knows, maybe I would have lost more had I been able to stay off the coffee, but I couldn't do it.Don't pay any attention to the reviews that discuss this being a limited intake diet, because it is not. Virtually every meal and snack allows unlimited vegetables, so I don't know how anyone considers that limited. You definitely wont' go hungry, except maybe a little at the start of Phase 1. You'll have days where you struggle to eat everything on the list, as you will be full, and that's when you are consuming the recommended portions. Now, I'm not a big vegetable eater, so don't get me wrong, the craving for chips and such was tough to overcome at first. After losing 6 pounds in the first week, though, I was hooked, and by the second week, the cravings subsided. As you can imagine, following this diet while traveling is challenging, but I was able to manage. I didn't follow it perfectly, but never strayed into breads, dairy, or any of the really bad stuff. I would be in meetings where box lunches were served, so I would just eat the turkey meat with the lettuce and tomato, no bread and certainly would skip the cookie! I'm sure the meat wasn't nitrate-free, per the book, but I still lost weight.I started at 224 pounds and this morning was at 205 - after just 4 weeks. All of the loss has been in my belly and, while I haven't measured, I suspect I've gone from a 38" waist to a 36". All my pants are very loose around the waist. My only tough day was Day 1. After that, this was a breeze. Unlike other diets referenced above, I really feel like I can stay away from most processed foods now. The cravings for those foods have truly disappeared, which is amazing, as I've eaten them my entire life. Will I occasionally stray? I'm sure I will, but I hope that they don't become a regular thing like they were in the past.Helpful hint: get a Magic Bullet (or some other smoothie-making device). When in phases that require fruits and healthy fats, I made fruit smoothies of frozen fruit, almond milk and almond butter. These are real treats (try frozen cherries) - even for a junk food junkie like me. Also, as I'm not a big vegetable fan, I used quite a bit of fresh baby spinach, especially for breakfast, as I could "cover it up" with the protein. For example, in phase 3 I would put fresh spinach on top of toasted Ezekiel bread and top that with a fried egg. I could barely taste the spinach. What I can say, I'm not a fan of veggies, so I figured out how to eat them without making the meal unpleasant. This diet worked for me - I hope it works for you, too!

Best diet I've tried!
First of all let me mention that I'm not one to take time to write reviews, but I've been so happy with this diet that I had to give feedback! I am NOT someone who loses weight fast at all! I am a 50 year old woman who has struggled with gaining and losing the same 10-25 lbs. since I was in my early teens. On Weight Watchers for instance I'll lose the first week then I'm lucky to lose 1-2 lbs. per month. I've tired literally every diet out there including Medifast which worked well but caused a lot of my hair to fall out when I went off and of course the weight came back on.I started the FMD after completing a 3 day juice/soup cleanse from which I lost 5lbs. Normally I would gain weight back pretty quickly after doing an extreme cleanse or fast but this time I did not! I maintained that weight loss amazingly over the next month and very gradually started to lose. I am not one of those people you may read about in reviewshere that lost super quickly. But, I want to give hope to those people like me who are slower losers and may lose faith because they don't seem to be losing much during that first month or so. It took my body that first month to realize it was ok with eating fats and carbs-things I'd pretty much cut out of my normal diet...it took that month to "heal" my very screwed up metabolism! I believe the author, Haylie Pomroy even mentions this in her book or on her blog ( which is very informative and you should check out!)....some people, depending on how messed up their metabolisms are, may take longer to heal their bodies and begin to lose weight. Now what you really want to know, I've thus far lost 8 pounds in addition to those 5 I'd lost on the cleanse- this in a little less than 3 months. While that may not sound like a lot to others, for someone like me who loses so slowly, this is wonderful! Not to mention I truly ENJOY the foods on the plan! I LOVE eating this way (with the exception of the 2 protein /veg only days!) I CAN EAT CARBS AGAIN for heavens sake! I only have about 5 lbs left to go. I just got my husband on he plan and as men do, he's lost quickly... 6lbs in a week! He too likes the food and is very happy! Also, may of the recipes are very good, especially the coconut curry chicken. the science behind the info in the book is super interesting The book is laid out a bit screwy and serving sizes are missing or not clear in some instances, but all of this is worth the results I'm getting ( plus you can go on her blog and pick up some of the missing info). So, I'm hoping this helps those of you on the fence or who are wondering if and when you'll ever start losing on the FMD! Good luck!

So glad I found this book!
I am on day 5 of week 3 and I could not be happier with the results! I was going to wait until I finished my 28 days before writing a review, but I really want to share my experiences with anyone who is considering taking on this program. With 10 days still to go, I have lost 10 pounds and, more importantly, 10 inches! My skin is clear and glowing, my eyes are bright and I wake up refreshed. I came downstairs this morning at 6am and my husband just stopped and stared at me. I asked him what he was looking at and he asked me how I could possibly wake up looking so good :) Trust me...I am 42 years old and I haven't woken up "looking good" in several years!!Now, to anyone who says that this is about calorie restriction -- that is absolutely incorrect. It is about consuming REAL food, with tons of variety and fueling your body at least 5 times per day. If you have more than 20 pounds to lose, the recommended portion sizes are HUGE. The foods that are eliminated (wheat, corn, soy, dairy, sugar) will naturally reduce overall caloric intake, but the point is to provide your organs with a much needed rest from processing all of the inflammatory, toxic foods that our typical American diet consists of. The more packaged/processed/restaurant food that you currently eat, the more challenging this will be. Personally, my biggest challenges were giving up my morning French press and my evening red wine. But I did it and I am so glad that I did!If you already cook most of your meals, this plan is easy. There is a large variety of food/ingredients available in all three phases, and you can create whatever you like. I will say that the recipes in her book are fairly bland/boring, but this is coming from someone who lives to cook. I simply spice everything up to my liking with approved herbs, condiments, vinegars, etc... Phases 1 and 2 did cause some initial inner turmoil in the kitchen, as I have not cooked without fat since 1992 -- back when we were all led to believe that we would die of heart disease by 40 if we so much as looked at a coconut.A lot of reviewers seem to hate phase 2 (protein/veggies). Personally, I DREAD phase 1(fruits/grains). But the point is, there is a physiological reason behind each phase and you just do it! Phase 1 and Phase 2 are only two days each. We can all do anything for two days. You might have some cravings. You might feel what you think is hunger because you are not eating the empty calories that you are used to reaching for. Drink a big glass of water or herbal tea and sit with those feelings -- they really do pass! And when you get to Phase 3 every week (Friday, Sat and Sun in my case) you feel like you are cheating at every meal! Nuts and seeds, and olives and avocados, and coconut milk and olive oil.... Honestly, I have a hard time eating all of the Phase 3 food, but I do it anyway even when I am really not hungry. My most pleasant surprise on this "diet" is feeling that if I absolutely had to eat this way for the rest of my life, I would happily do it. I am not counting down the days until it is over. I am not planning an outing to my favorite pizza place as soon as I reach my goal. I am no longer a slave to my cravings for CRAP, which is an incredible feeling. OK...I do look forward to a glass of red wine :)Do yourself a favor and commit to the FULL 28 days. Don't make your own rules/substitutions. Consider not stepping on the scale every single morning -- you will drive yourself crazy. Just trust in it and watch yourself be amazed!

amazing - educational and it works!
I saw the ad in a magazine for this book and i was skeptical about purchasing it, but went ahead and did so. the book is an easy read and very informative and educational. i like the way Haylie adds her little "geek" descriptions. i learned so many things about the various organs in our body and how they work and it all makes sense.i am on my 3rd month on this program and i have already lost 23 lbs. it took me a couple of days to get adjusted to the variety of foods and the way of eating, but once you master it and plan it out, (which is key to the success of this program) its a breeze. the recipes are awesome. i have shared them with my friends and they loved them.i was recently away on a business trip for a week and tried to eat properly and follow the program, but that didn't go to well. i not only felt awful, i gained two pounds. when i returned home, i went back on the program and lost the weight i gained and i feel great!this is a book that i will keep and will refer to in the future. totally recommend itM

Totally not working for me...
As a European eating quite healthy this diet seemed not so healthy to me as Ms. Pomroy is suggesting. However, since I wanted to lose some weight and wondered whether my metabolism could need some help, I figured I'd still give it a try. Today I finished week 3 and although I usually do not eat that much meat/ fish, I did everything just like Ms.Pomroy suggests in her book. Results: NOTHING! If at all, I might have lost one kilogramm of weight in those whole three weeks. This is what my weight varies during one day usually!I did not feel comfortable eating so much animal protein and although the author says it's possible to do the diet as a vegetarian/ vegan, I think it hardly is because there are so many restrictions (and for vegetarians, she is always assuming that they will eat eggs). I have NOT been on a lot of diets before and maybe this concept really only is working for people with a LOT of weight to lose and/ or who used to eat a lot of crap before. I will still finish week 4, just to make sure; however, I don't think there's a lot more change to expect. I am highly disappointed in this book/ concept. If you want to start eating healthy, I'd advise you to NOT buy this book. Also, I just can't believe that eating soooo much animal protein really does your metabolism/ body a favor. So much meat produces a lot of acid in your body.I am also quite disappointed with the recipes. I had read so many reviews and Ms. Pomroy states herself that you will enjoy food so much during the diet. I have to say that I never hated eating food so much than the way I did during this diet. I never thought of myself being such a good cook but now I know that I can cook much healthier and tastier dishes than what I found in here. I really do not understand how the weight loss with this concept works for so many people and why they are so happy with the recipes. Last but not least, this diet is not as easy to implement in your everyday life - even with cooking everything beforehand on Sundays like a did. I found it quite complicated.

Interesting book
I was initially attracted by the title. Then, once I received the book, by the different approach to the human metabolism. Pomroy did not major in nutrition first. Her knowledge and experience in agriculture and veterinary sciences, coupled with nutrition, made much more sense to me. I am on the way to implement the "teachings" of Pomroy. Yet, I am now more aware of what I should be eating, why, and how. I would recommend this book to any person looking for a change in their lifestyle not just looking to loose some weight off.

Can't recommend enough!
I had never ever been on a diet. Skinny my whole life until I gained 20kg with pregnancy and due to an antidepressant that I started the take a month after birth the last 10kg were just not going away, whatever I did (reducing calories and working out 3 days a week, trying keto, plaeo, etc) and also my triglycerides were rocket high. So I decided to give this a try. And wow! I lost 6kg in the 28 days but then continued losing weight without doing much and am now back to my old self.

How can I lose weight eating all this food, but I am!
I might be a bit premature with this, but I think this diet is fantastic. I'm ten days into it, eating more than I do when I'm not dieting and have lost 3 1/2 kgs (almost 8 pounds). Haylie Pomroy explains the science behind the diet, explains the requirements in detail and finishes with a collection of delicious recipes. The aim is to bring hormones back under control and speed up metabolism. At this point I have no idea if this will be achieved. However, the very healthy food has to be good for anyone. It's an extremely complicated diet, three phases in a week and lists of what can and can't be eaten in each phase. There's a long list of don'ts, the usuals such as alcohol, but also coffee, wheat, dairy. It does take a lot of planning but it that is done carefully in advance the day-to-day becomes much easier. If it really does achieve it's claim of speeding up metabolism it's got to be the best diet I've ever tried, and I've tried a lot. My metabolism has been shot to pieces by starvation diets, I'm hoping for a miracle with this one.
