Leather HIDES - Whole Sheep Skin 7 to 10 SF (Rust Brown)

I’ve now ordered three different colors of this leather, each on separate orders. All three were excellent hides. Smooth natural surface on one, out, side , rough surface on the other, in side. . Some have complained of the quantity not being 7-10 sf. All three hides I received were in the 7- 8.5 sf range. They ran around 34 inches long by 32 inches wide. All were one complete hide. I received no half hides or pieces. That’s the usable portion. Legs and neck are outside that rectangle and would actually increase the sf of the hide. If my ,long ago ,math skills are accurate 34” x 32 ” = 1088” divided by 144” = approx 7.5 square feet. A square foot being 12”x12” or 144 “. Smaller than most folks imagine I’m thinking.They run 1-2 mm thick. Thinner at the edges. Thicker towards the middle , they are natural sheep hides after all. The color was consistent across the hides and there were no tears or holes in the usable “rectangle” of the hides. These are way to thin for holsters, belts or knife sheath. You will need 7-8 ounce “tool leather” for those. They work great for projects that call for lighter leather.Very nice quality natural genuine leather hides.31 May 2018. I’ve now bought two more hides. Same as my above reviews.For Andrew:31x31 = 961 divide by 144 = 6.6736 sf. Darn close to 7 sf. The 5 hides I’ve bought have run a bit larger than that. Yes I’m only measuring the choice rectangular portion. Not the entire hide. A 96 x25 inch long hide would be more like a 1/3 split from cattle. A 96 x25 sheep hide is more likely 3 sheep hides seamed together. Not a single sheep. These hides are more likely than not from butcher age sheep and or goats. Not at the animals maximum attainable size. Plus imported.Perhaps a farm visit would help. Lol

Used for a seat cover on an antique chair as an accent piece. The chair is beat up and painted black parts and sanded down others with a clear coat over it all. Good even color on the skin. Looks great.

I wish the pictures better relayed the colors. If you guys update the pictures let me know, and I will update to a 5 star. I also wish there were more size options, larger sizes specifically. Other than that I will be buying here again! My skin only had 1 small hole and it was on a corner, so perfect for my use.

Perfect for small projects. They are a decent size to work with.

I was expecting a foot square or something similar. It came and a larfe piece that is probably 2x3 ft. Nice, soft, and regular thickness. Not thin. I love it.

A quarter of this skin is unusable due to long gashes and multiple holes, some out of frame. Photo is on my cutting table for size reference. This is my *second* order from them, and I wasn’t really happy with the last one either.. large portions of the hide had an unpleasant wrinkled texture, kind of like what you see around the edges where it was flattened, looking a little like human skin stretch marks. I was apprehensive of buying from them a second time, and I guess I was right. I’ve ordered from Mulch Leather Co on Amazon at least a half a dozen times, and they are GORGEOUS, thinner, no cuts or holes, buttery soft and much more supple than what I’ve gotten from Reed, and with consistent colors, at the same price. I only ordered this one from Reed because Mulch doesn’t have a dark brown currently in stock. As much as I am interested in some of the colors offered, I won’t be buying from here again.

Ordered this to use for the palm in mittens I made my grandkids. Quality hide, large, and exactly what I needed.

I bought a skin for my nephew-in-law (along with end pieces from another supplier). He likes working with leather and making neat crafty stuff. I couldn't afford a whole cow hide but this was a great alternative for giving him a nice big piece to work with. Loved the color options and the hide was beautiful. He seemed happy, too. I would buy again from this provider.

Although it took a little longer than expected to arrive, it was worth the wait. Very good quality and price. Using to make a purse. Will be definitely buying more. I contacted the seller about a small shipping issue and got a response in less than 24-hours and my concerns were promptly resolved.

I bought it make some watch straps but the size has tempted me to make some wallets, Ipad Holder, Kindle Holder. Got the Tan one and the colour is super. Its genuine leather.
