They apparently use genuine wasabi from Shizuoka, Japan.
The product description reads, "Because we're particular about aroma, flavor, and freshness, all of the wasabi used by Tamaruya is domestically sourced. It's grown in mountain valleys where clean water springs forth abundantly. It takes 11 to 18 months for wasabi to grow, using only the nutrients from the mountain spring water. It's a gift from the forests and clear streams. We use 100% Shizuoka wasabi and don't use any artificial colorings. Shizuoka Chunky Wasabi allows you to enjoy the crunchy texture of the wasabi stem." And it's absolutely delicious. I always bring this wasabi with me when I go to a sushi restaurant! Most sushi restaurants in the US use a scientifically engineered imitation called powdered wasabi.

100% Hon Wasabi from Shizuoka Japan
Want some actual wasabi instead of getting some horseradish or mustard that has been colored green? Yeah. This is Wasabi. Wasabi from Japan. Real wasabi! I don't know why the FDA allows mixtures of horseradish, mustard, and other stuff to be called "wasabi" when it obviously isn't "wasabi". If you want that stuff ... then this product is not for you. It isn't as hot as some of the so-called wasabi that has horseradish or mustard, but you can really taste the wasabi flavor. Which is what I want. Wasabi and not something calle wasabi that isn't wasabi. Does the actual real wasabi cost more than the so-called "wasabi" with no real wasabi in it? Yes. I was very happy to find this product, and I have bought it several times. It cost more but it is what I'm trying to buy and not something else disguised to be what I want to be buying.

Arrigato - Shizuoka Hon Wasabi
This is the best - real Wasabi - and a friend of mine is from Shizuoka and a chef - I love this Wasabi {have tried others while I was waiting for this product to be restocked - they just did not compare} I love Japanese food yet have also found that simple boiled or mashed potatoes with butter and pepper and of course Shizuoka Hon Wasabi is so delicious. It is real, so like sushi you just need a little- In regard to reviews that mistakenly thought they had received an expired product all I can say is " Come on people, really -" the year, the month, the day - it is coming from another country.

The Real Deal - Chunky Style Wasabi
This is real wasabi, not the powdered stuff mixed with water and other fillers, or ones mixed with horseradish to make it spicier, or with green food coloring. If you have never tried real wasabi, this is a great one to try. It's more course and chunky rather than smooth and creamy like other processing. Japanese wasabi has more flavor and is less spicy than western horseradish. Horseradish is for a steak or roast beef sandwich not sushi or other Japanese food...

Returning
Maltose veg oil (edible is disputable) Xantham gum. Might be fine for most but these ingredients don’t work for me. Last time I’ll buy a food that doesn’t list its ingredients

So Good
Love this. If I’m spending a fortune in sushi I want real wasabi. This is great quality, texture is great and it brings the heat.

Not COMPLETELY or ENTIRELY wasabi...
Amazon describes this product as “100% Natural Hon Wasabi from Shizuoka”. I understand this product is a paste, but apparently “100% Wasabi” doesn’t mean COMPLETELY or ENTIRELY wasabi in Japanese. I also found this product to be unpleasantly sweet, most likely due to the artificial sweetener sorbitol. For your additional information: INGREDIENTS: WASABI, MALTOSE, SALT, VEGETABLE OIL (RAPESEED OIL), DIETARY FIBER, SORBITOL, CELLULOSE, MODIFIED STARCH, SPICE EXTRACT, CYCLIC OLIGOSACCHARIDE, CITRIC ACID, SODIUM L-ASCORBATE, XANTHAN GUM. CONTAINS: WHEAT.
