Not as gripping as I thought it would be
I read the 5th book first then realised it was the 5th in a series so purchased the 4 previous books. There are a lot of characters to remember. None of it feels believable. That's why I have only given it 4 stars instead of 5.

It started to incredibly well...
The first half of the book is really well done. I was so enjoying it and then Piers comes along with his ridiculous story to weave his way into the Cary family and I am afraid it went downhill after that. The plots were just completely implausible, and they could have been really good if thought out better. I found the grandmother was one person one minute, then she changed her tune in seconds, and then back again. She was supposed to be a strong character, but the switching was just not normal. And then the ending with Sir Lucian and Hester was totally ridiculous. Where on earth did that come from? It is such a shame because I thought it was going to be so good and for me actually a bit different compared to Dilly's other books. Well, actually it turned out that it was completely different. Sorry, but I don't think I will be rushing to continue the series, particularly the way it appears to be going judging by the blurb. Having said that, it won't stop me from reading other books by Dilly Court.
