This fossil dig was great to do with our science unit on fossils and going into the geology unit! My kids had fun doing it, we talked about how real paleontologists have to be very careful and it actually clicked trying to get these sometimes very tiny fossils out! Better than the other dino/fossil digs we've tried in the past and a better value! I did soak the fossil "brick" in the kitchen sink for about 30 minutes - wasn't dusty that way but it was very muddy. I do recommend having some heavier duty soap on hand to scrub with afterwards. We used my husband's Fast Orange scrub and my hands are still stained grey!

If your kids like to get messy, this is the kit for you. I suggest taking it outside near a hose and placing it on a baking sheet and sticking the fossils you find in a bowl of water. I give it 5 stars for the cool fossils they found and they had fun. The mess is less important to me as long as the kids had fun doing it. It gave me 30 minutes of free time.

The dig kit is black and will get EVERYWHERE. My kids have done many other dig kits and love them but this is one I won’t get again. I had to use dish soap to get the black off of their skin (haven’t steam cleaned the chairs so we’ll see how well that comes off). I’d stick to one that is white so the powder is easier to clean up.

My kids can spend hours digging in these things trying to find the fossils. They absolutely love them! In fact, they've loved them so much that these have been our go-to gift for several kids birthday parties and they're always hit.

My son really likes these kits and this one is nice because it is not hard to dig. IT IS VERY MESSY. We have had these kits before and they are always dusty but this one is a darker color and stains hands and surfaces a little bit. Not a huge deal but something to keep in mind. This is one I would have rather saved to do outside. Other than that it is fun and a good price.

Kid love the toy for his birthday. I was told it wasn't as hard to break apart as other brands. Very enjoyable and easy to play around with. I was told as a tip if you have a hard time breaking it You can use some water.

I was prepared for some mess, dust/dirt. I had my son do it outside, added water as recommended. I did not plan on black thick mud being EVERYWHERE. I definitely would have had him change clothes or hosed him off before coming inside! Taken his shoes off before hand, and/or had him wear goggles, his face looked like an old coal miner picture! But he had a blast, absolutely great product for the money, I had enough space to breathe and do the laundry. I’ll just be more prepared next time!
