Just From Observing My Daughter....
She seems to absolutely love this cartridge. She received for her birthday on 10/21, and has not used any other cartridge since! we have to kick her out of the bathroom because she brings it in there with her also!!!! As for the educational value I couldn't answer, but it has held her attention.

Fun and educational
We bought this cartridge for the Leapster. Our grandchildren have been using it non stop. It certainly holds their interest and was a great purchase

This is a Wonderful Game! A review of the LMAX SpongeBob game
My young children (boy and girl; 4 and 6 this month) are not allowed to watch SpongeBob but that doesn't keep all three of us from enjoying this game. It is simply one of the best Leapfrog LMAX/Leapster game cartridges that we have.**Skills and Games**Word BuildingArrgh. Some of SpongeBob's friendly jellyfish have letters inside them. There is a water cannon that can be used to knock the letters out. On the first level, children are shown the last two letters in a word: such as _ a t. They can `free' letters which then float up to fill in the blank to make a word such as hat, cat, etc.[I have noticed this is helping my preschooler `get' the entire word building concept.]Phonics and AttributesIn this silly and fun game [even mom likes!], Patrick must move around three conveyor belts collecting objects. Sometimes these objects are just anything that is `yellow' and sometimes the objects are shapes, items with start with a certain letter, items grouped and equaling a certain number of things, and in the advanced round: items which are grouped and equal to an equation such as (8-3).Money and AdditionSpongeBob is at one of those grab-a-prize machines. He gets to try to grab something if he has the right amount of change.[This has been great for my kindergartener and preschooler. The latter can now identify various coins, while the former is learning not only to count change (for example, that 4 quarters make a dollar) but also to count by 5's and 10's.]MusicThere is a fun section in which children can play around with instruments and sounds.Five Stars. [A]. Better background story than most of the cartridges. Better graphics other Leapster cartridges. Lots to learn. Good humor for all ages.

My son's favorite Lmax/Leapster game
I don't know if it is the fact that it is Sponge Bob or the game itself but my kid LOVES this game, of all his games for the LMax/Leapster this is his very favorite. Always talking to me about the "griddle grease" that he has to earn or has earned. (Which I think is gross, but he finds it endlessly fascinating)This one teaches you a little bit of spelling, addition, money, and even some science. I would say this is appropriate for somewhere around Kindergarten aged kids.

Easy enough for preschool, but enough to last into elementary school
We got this for our son when he was 4 and it has been a favorite ever since. There were several games that he could pick up and do immediately on his own (using the lower levels). One game, the phonics game, he wasn't able to do without some help, but it gave us a chance to work on it together. Now that he's 5 1/2, he is able to do the phonics game on his own. It's nice to see how he's grown into the game. I think we still have a couple more years left with this game, as he doesn't regularly play the games on the harder levels.Another nice feature is that for every game that your child completes, he/she gets to collect a drop of a secret potion that they can later use to help Sponge Bob create a secret recipe. Our son LOVES collecting drops of the secret potion--he feels very rewarded when he gets a drop, and he regularly updates us with how many drops he has of each color. It's a nice little incentive that ties the multiple games together into a fun goal.

Wonderful
My 6 year old daughter loves this game cartridge (several skills on one cartridge). And I love all she is learning and the self esteem it builds while playing! It has different skill levels, and the children must complete the game before "the reward" of a funny short game like "the claw". Wonderful.

My 4 year old loves it!
My daughter loves this game. She absolutely clamors for it every time she gets to see me.There are several games on this that have given her skills practice that they need. There are also several other creative areas that she enjoys. For the money, I highly recommend. You will get your dollars worth on day one.
