As pictured, who knows if it's necessary
Exactly as pictured. Worked for FC-M591 crank arm. I', not entirely sure what this thing does or if you even need it, as it just screws into the crank arm and does not extend into the bottom bracket, so I don't think it adds any preload to the bearings or anything. You don't even tighten it that hard. If anything, it just holds the crank arm on while you tighten the screws.I searched and searched for an explanation from someone who didn't just hear it twelfth hand that it somehow adjusts tension, but never found one. So if you lost yours, I really doubt it's all that important.

A necessary part for Shimano cranks
A necessary part to pre-torque the Shimano cranks. The bike I was working on had a stripped bolt, which means that the person who installed it really cranked it down. This only needs to be finger tight. The replacement will last the life of the bike.
