What does aluminum core pan bottom mean? Is the aluminum encapsulated in stainless steel, or is the aluminum exposed on the bottom of the pan?

The bottom of this pan is steel. I tested it with a magnet. Therefore the aluminum part must be enclosed between the top of the stainless steel pan cooking surface and the steel bottom of the pan. I have become very fond of this pan, and in our family we use it constantly. I like the fact that I can even use steel wool to scrub of tough fried food scraps.
