    Canyon Chicken Chili = Mild Sweet Potato Chili

This is my first time trying this brand - I also have the Caldera Chicken Curry which I plan to try later this week, along with a few other healthy options.These pack a little heavier and they’re vacuum-packed so not flexible. I had a hard time tearing the bag open by hand, definitely needed a knife. Everything seemed to hydrate well with the amount of water and time suggested at low elevation, but there was quite a bit of leftover water.The sweet potato is the standout here. The chicken hydrates alright, and I was happy about large pieces of cauliflower, but the sauce is very light. There’s a strong oregano flavor which I wasn’t expecting - I had imagined it would be more of a green chile flavor but it’s very mild. Just good, clean food. I enjoyed the leftovers the morning after more than I did dinner – would make a good savory breakfast option, espeically with an egg on top.I honestly have mixed feelings about the meal. It’s not bland, but truly light and won't satisfy any craving for chili. It’s filling and a generous serving, two meals for me, but low-calorie at 310 for the full bag. I’ve toyed with bringing dehydrated meals along on work trips and this may be more appropriate for a low-impact day vs. backcountry hiking.

Trying to find gluten free meals for backpacking is tough. Finding one that tastes great and is made from quality ingredients is even tougher. This meal was perfect. Nice portion size (not 2.5 servings like many of the Mountain House offerings) and was very tasty.

Bland, dry, tasteless. However, it was a good source of nutrition. If you're really into the paleo trip, you'll probably enjoy it. If not, stick to Backpacker's Pantry or Mountain House.
