In this guide, master metal worker Keith Nichols describes how to build a roadster body for a rat rod. Complete with detailed prints and many illustrations, he gives a step by step process. This book is intended for the serious hobbyist with some fabrication experience. Review: Great read, solid advice, short but to the point - build a body. - Short and to the point. Good photos and drawings, but you'll probably need to scale up/down for your own frame. Overall, glad I bought it, the advice is solid and comes from someone who clearly has learned by doing. Review: confirms it can be done! - Hello, I have been toying with the ideas of building a "rat rod"/hot rod for some time now. However, I am a father of four and don't have a large surplus of "toy money for dad". This little text confirms my idea that with a patience and time, I indeed can build my own little hot rod. I began gather discounted running gear parts from craigslist, and trying build up the self confidence to design and construct the body. I have just completed a welding class at the local community college, I feel very confident in my ability to fabricate a body- especially after reading this e-book. BUT I plan to use a donor frame or have a pro weld up a ladder frame for me. (The frame is the foundation or your hot rod- ONLY COMPETENT WELDERS should fabricate the frame!!!! Safety first my friends.) This book was a great price... I was able to download it instantly (and I am really not a computer kinda guy). The text was a quick read, and EXACTLY what I needed to spur me on to construction!!! I would buy ten times over! I hope my review will help you.

SAVE YOUR MONEY !
This isn't a book, it's more of a mini-pamphlet. The title should be "How to build a hideous metal box out of rusted scrap metal" There are few photos, (nothing of the finished product after completion) a few crude sketches, huge gaps around the passenger compartment panels, no mention of what you're going to have to do next after you've wasted a weekend welding up this slab-sided atrocity, which is to a roadster body like a root ball is to a flower arrangement. .. (here's a helpful hint- haul it away and sell it for scrap before you waste any more money trying to make something out of it.) Thankfully, the book is so short (due to a lack of useful information) that you can read it during your morning coffe and not waste a lot of your time on it. I am incredulous that anyone could get something this poorly executed published, even more so that Amazon would sell it. I only gave it a 1 because Amazon won't allow negative numbers on reviews.

Mr. Nichols book reflects the "build it, don't buy it" trend, that is called "Rat Rods". (Vehicles that are built out of whatever car parts you have, or can get for next to nothing, that end up resembling old cars.) This book follows his build of a "faux" 1932 Ford body. I found the build to be interesting because he didn't start with an old car body, but parts from a commercial truck box. There are technical drawings, project photos, and suggestions on alternate material ideas. If you have the skills to build a car, will you ever build a car like this? I doubt that, rat rods are an individual expression of the owner. Is this a good purchase? Yes. Out-of-the-box thinking, and use of basic home project skills, will give that home vehicle builder ideas to tackle a project vehicle.
