I did wash them before I put them in and I also condition them and let them air dry, flat iron works perfectly with them, I am so happy with this 9purchase! They did arrive in a natural dark brown color so I did the water dye method and the colored nicely to the jet black color that I wanted to match my hair. The texture is the same as relaxed/blown out hair and full as well. The actual clips are comfortable on the scalp and did not snag or pull my hair. They came in different sizes with the same lengths and I had plenty to achieve the look I wanted. They curled decently with a curling iron on med/high heat. I did wash as re-use them for several other styles. I would suggest purchasing at least 2 sets if you plan doing a full head of clips.
