Excellent resource
Fantastic book with easy to understand examples and exercises to overcome obstacles to success - even though many of the examples were related to basketball, they were easy to apply to other disciplines. In our case ski racing. When you sign up on the author's website he sends occasional emails with reminder material and thoughts for parents which is great to keep you on track and stop you falling back into your old ways. Highly recommend to anyone with an ambitious kid who wants to make it into a chosen field...

One Stop Shop For Mental Toughness
This is a great little book. I purchased it for my partner who, despite not falling under the category of "young athlete" (well, she's 30, she'd argue THAT toss with me), she's not as into reading sports psychology tomes as I am, and I was looking for something a little simpler that I could distill for her. It absolutely did not disappoint. As someone who has spent over 20 years reading all manner of sports psychology books, there wasn't anything new here that I had not read elsewhere, but I'm not the target audience. Young athletes won't have spent the time I have reading as widely as I have. So this should be new to them. Although there's nothing I've not read here before, this is the first time I've found all of these tips in one single place. It's a one stop shop. I really love this book for it's simplicity but also breadth. Yeah, you could want to read deeper into some aspects, but you don't *need* to to get the full benefit of these exercises (and I know from experience that they do work. But you've got to do them every day, for years, to get the full benefit of them. They're not a magic wand). I've already purchased the follow up and the parent's guide as well. I've seen in some reviews complaints about grammatical errors, but I found about two in total. So I assume these have been editted out in future editions. It is certainly not a jarring read and my praise is not in spite of the presentation of the text. So don't let those reviews put you off.

My child now walks like they’re about to enter the Olympics even when going to the fridge
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “My child now walks like they’re about to enter the Olympics even when going to the fridge” I bought Mental Toughness For Young Athletes hoping it would help my child handle competition better. What I did NOT expect was a full personality upgrade. After the first “5-minute mindset exercise,” my child looked at me, nodded slowly, and said, “Mistakes are just data.” This is a 9-year-old who used to cry if their toast broke diagonally. Now they do pre-game breathing exercises before PE, refuse to “engage with negativity” (including me asking them to put shoes on), and dramatically visualise victory before school spelling tests. Yesterday they lost a football match and responded with: “Losses build character.” Then immediately asked for ice cream compensation “for emotional recovery.” The book is clearly effective, slightly concerning, and may or may not be turning my home into a motivational sports documentary. Downsides: * My child now gives TED Talk energy at breakfast * We are all referred to as “team members” * The dog has been asked to improve his “focus under pressure” Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Do I fear my child will start charging entrance fees to our kitchen for “training sessions”? Also yes.

Mental toughness for sucess.
Call it mental toughness or rules for success. These are what you need to succeed in life. Yes, this book is written for sports in mind and especially for younger athletes/children (teens mostly). However, the techniques are useful for anyone and can be transferred to all aspects of life. He is right it is adifficilt treck yo get kids yo read this ad my basketball crazy son will not give it a second look as he "has to pratice". However, I would encourage any parent to read this even if it is just to quote some of the greats so kids listen and maybe decide to pick up the book themselves.

A must have for any young athlete!
Brought this book for my 14 year old, football playing son. We have been sharing it together and it’s just perfect. My son is loving it & really beginning to take the whole ‘Mental toughness’ thinking and applying it into his sport & everyday life. It’s a game changer! So glad I brought it and would 100% recommend. Thank you!

Little Girls Can be Tough Too!
So, my daughter decides to take up Football (Soccer) having had no interest until nearly 8 years old, when suddenly the bug takes hold following a school trial session and a suggestion from a friend to give it a go. Fast forward nearly three years and she has made fantastic progress in a very short time with a recent invite for an academy trial with the biggest local team! Now the road to this point has been bumpy and props to my daughter for showing the courage to continue despite them but, one thing that did significantly help her (and myself as ‘Dad coach’), was this little gem of a book I stumbled upon whilst considering how to help her become more focused and able to understand that sport comes with it’s bumps and bruises and it’s ok to be competitive and ‘give it back’ as it were (within the rules) as sport is a different thing than our day to day manner, something I noticed many similar age struggle with. We read through the book together one chapter at a time and then I would sit back and let the ideas marinate only to stand back in awe to see her apply the very ideas and have a new level of determination show through in the very next game! So much so, her coaches were taken aback too and it made for a new central position in the team with her new found battling instinct to pair with her already formidable athleticism and rapidly improving skills and tactical understanding. Regardless of the sport your little one has chosen, the path will have many similarities given it’s ‘the mind the drives the thing’, so consider purchasing this very reasonably priced and highly accessible little book for them to read and watch how it influences them to show their best selves too!

The book is good for kids and for parents too. Only one thing - so many advertisement of the website “gamereadycourse”. I have visited this website and it’s nothing there, I don’t want to share my, or my children’s emails, but it’s pushing me. Honestly, now I not sure what I have a full information from the book, maybe it’s something on the website, but I paid for the book…

Bought for my son
I bought this for my son who's recently been accepted into a basketball academy and is having to step out of his comfort zone. I like that it's written from the child/teen point of view and it's not just an adult giving advice. Very well written and easy to read. Thanks for your valuable insights. Totally recommend

Empowering and Accessible – The Best Mental Training for Young Athletes!
My 8-year-old son, who plays travel baseball, absolutely loves this book. "Mental Toughness For Young Athletes" is a fantastic resource that breaks down complex psychological concepts into simple, 5-minute exercises that kids can actually understand and apply. As a parent, I’ve seen how much pressure young athletes can feel on the field. This book provides practical tools for building confidence, overcoming mistakes, and staying focused during high-stakes games. My son finds the exercises engaging rather than like "homework," and we often discuss the concepts together after his practices. It’s the perfect complement to his physical training, helping him develop the resilience needed to bounce back from a tough inning or a strikeout. If you have a child who is passionate about sports and wants to gain a mental edge, this book is an essential read. It’s empowering, easy to digest, and truly makes a difference in their overall performance and enjoyment of the game!
